brianvf
Tough road series upcoming this weekend. I could see this being more similar to the MSUM series...I think offensive chances will be more limited, especially when compared to the BU series. Cornell is big & heavy and experienced. These will be their first two games of the season, so maybe they'll be a bit rusty...we can hope. Someone keeps giving Cornell a #1 vote in the polls (Wodon?), so hopefully UND can knock them down a peg or two.
cberkas
Time to take that 1st place vote away from Cornell.

Cornell is the heaviest team in the country by average weight, but UND is the third heaviest, so not much difference in that aspect. Just have to find a way to sustain more offensive zone time and get more pucks to the net. I’m heading to NY for this series. I’m excited- never been!

Popular Post Goon
I emailed the Cornell SID and this is what he said. Hi Eric, Yes, Friday’s game will be on ESPN+ this weekend. Not sure why it isn’t on the website yet, but it will be there before the weekend. The atmosphere at the Lynah was amazing and it was at the local establishments as well. Enjoy!
Godsmack
Schloss and Feldman give a good scouting report on their weekly UND hockey podcast. Cornell returns nearly their entire lineup this year and 88% goals scored. Only lost two players. One of those was a third string goalie. The one major departure was Gabriel Seger who put up 44 points last year.
Godsmack
There’s an interesting video on YouTube, an interview with Coach Schafer with Pierre McGuire that aired about 22 hours ago. I’d recommend listening to it. Much respect for Coach Schafer. Had the pleasure of listening to him speak at Sioux boosters roughly a decade or more ago. My takeaway from his speech was how much he respected programs like North Dakota because they’re willing to travel to his barn, not just expecting his team to travel to ours. He didn’t name names but there were some big school programs that popped in my head as to who he might be referring to. He said he would gladly travel to places like UND because he knows we’re always willing and able to return the favor. 1

brianvf
WTH. How are we already short so early in the season? Four players didn't travel with the team for the Cornell series due to injuries: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-arrives-in-ithaca-with-shortened-roster Berg, Zmolek, Komzak, and Johnson all injured. Berg is a surprise. Both him and Zmolek would have been helpful against Cornell. Quote Berg sustained an injury late in Saturday's game against Boston University. He participated in portions of practice during the week but was ruled out against the Big Red. He's considered day-to-day and could return for next weekend's National Collegiate Hockey Conference opener against Minnesota Duluth. Defenseman Bennett Zmolek will remain sidelined with a lower-body injury. Zmolek is considered week-to-week. Defenseman Tanner Komzak sustained a lower-body injury at practice this week and did not travel to Ithaca. Komzak is considered day-to-day. Goaltender Kaleb Johnson also is dealing with a lower-body injury and stayed in Grand Forks. UND is currently assessing the severity of his injury. Would be nice if Berg could be back for UMD...doesn't sound like Zmolek will be though. Quote With two defensemen out, UND is down to six available blue liners — Jake Livanavage, Abram Wiebe, E.J. Emery, Caleb MacDonald, Andrew Strathmann and Jayden Jubenvill. Forward Dane Montgomery practiced at defense this week and would be a potential seventh. What do you think they do with forward lines when you’re missing your top center? They could keep last week’s lineup mostly intact by moving Jammer up to top line center and have Littler (a big, heavy body to help combat the giants of Cornell) slide into the 4th line with Croal and Schmaltz. Or maybe they throw Wilkie up on the top line and shuffle the deck below. Either way, Perron needs to be with someone who can make plays with him or be a finisher because he was buzzing strong on Saturday and just didn’t get on the scoresheet the way he deserved. I like the idea of 7-9-18 together. They don’t have much size but they would certainly be a scoring threat when out there
