ND-fan
I can’t believe some people here, we are 3-1 with the qb won the fall competition. We lost one qb after this because he wanted to play more and I suspect we will be seeing him playing at top division II next year. Our highly recruited qb that so many love who hasn’t even played quarter is one so many want playing even coaches determined wasn’t ready yet to play. I don’t think this is unusual he is redshirt freshman still learning to play at this. Level besides learning offense. This is quite often path most quarterbacks usually go through to become a starter. Everyone so worried about leaving but if he goes he probably will start over to get playing time and he will need learn new offense with little playing time he is not going to get commitment to start with top FCs or FBs program. Second this is why we have coaches and this there job and if don’t win enough other people will replace them. Let people do there job and judge them after how they have done.if not then see if you can get hired see how you do and be prepared for people that think they know more than you do when you have all the facts.

Did they throw the ball off wall of the sports center or over the rail road tracks? Did they accidentally kick the ball instead of throw it? Did they hit somebody in the head in the stands on a deep pass? Jerry couldn't complete his passes, and Trey couldn't efficiently run an offense.

GoodGood
A couple years ago ndsu benched a QB who was 6’4 240 pounds, ran a 4.6 40, was 7-0 as the starter, but couldn’t throw a football. As dominate as they were running the football even they knew they couldn’t survive with zero ability to pass. Went went on to win another national championship that year 2
UND-FB-FAN
15 hours ago, Irish said: I'm still concerned about how we are handling the QB situation. Romfo certainly did better the second half but the first half was brutal. So far he has thrown some of the worst passes I have seen from our quarterbacks in a long time. After the first half we had 11 yards passing with a couple of interceptions and it's early in the season - and most of them were short gimmes. Given Bubba's history the back-ups must have realized that there is no way they are going to get a shot this year. A potential recipe for trouble. Easy to judge the QB situation in a vacuum. Bottomline is only the coaches have an idea what the back-ups look like, and I have to imagine it’s not very good. The fact that UND is 3-1 with Romfo (an undersized Class B North Dakota kid) at QB is an absolute fabulous job of coaching, actually, in my opinion. As I mentioned earlier, though, want to see how UND looks like after a year of offensive recruiting with Fruechte. Future is potentially bright with Seidl and Deng Deng, just need to get the QB position’s future figured out. This overall approach is not all that surprising, honestly, when you look at Fruechte’s background as a player at Minnesota (2012-2014) and what Jerry Kill and Matt Limegrover were doing philosophically. 1

No question the defensive coordinator and his secondary coach (we all know the individuals responsible) need to clean this up, because rest assured the big boys in the MVFC are guaranteed to see this and carve up UND’s secondary again and again if corrections aren’t made. The quarterbacks behind Romfo aren’t guaranteed to be better than Romfo (and likely won’t be), and I’ll trust Fruechte as of now as he has been impressive thus far in my opinion.

I agree with a fair amount of this comment. I have heard few people calling for Romfo to be out and out replaced.. I have heard many people questioning the lack of playing time for our backups and until we see them play we have no idea if they are any better than Romfo. I cant imagine them being worse at throwing but maybe Romfo is that much better at everything else. The fact that our backup qb has gotten one play (a kneel-down) in the first 4 games of the year is ridiculous. Personally Im super excited about UND being 3-1 at this point in the year.. this was the most optimistic record that anyone could have predicted based on all of the turnover we had.. many would have predicted 2-2 and a few negative nancys would have predicted 1-3. All of that being said.. you cant be excited about the play of the QB position. We beat Montana because they didnt load the box to stop the run (their coach admitted it) and our defense had a great 2nd half.. ISU and SD.. we should beat those teams and it shouldnt be a question.. Same with Murray State. SD had so many people in the box one pump fake and our WRs were running down the field uncovered. I would guess we will see the same defense from Murray state. I hope Romfo kills it the rest of the year.. I hope these first 4 games were a complete aberration of his actual passing ability. A decent passing game will take stress off our running game and allow it to be even more dominant. I also want to see Jerry get some playing time. What I witnessed out of Tommy against Sac State, USD, Northern Iowa to name a few games last year was not that much better than what we've seen out of Romfo. On the flip side, he would have put on a show against San Diego. No excusing Romfo, he has to be up to this point the worst QB in the MVFC. One consistent remains for me. I believe that the decision for Tommy to move on was "mutual". I don't think that would have happened clearly if they didn't feel they had the QBs that had a higher ceiling in the room. I still feel like it'll click for Simon.

If we had committed to the run in the 3 games you listed above we would have won at least 2 of the 3. If I recall the timeline last year.. Tommy moved on.. then Danny moved on. I wonder if Tommy would have left if Danny had left first.. Just like I wonder who would have been the starting QB if Danny had stuck around.. Interesting to think of. Tommy running our current offensive mentality is a fun thought.

Im 100% sure that Danny didn't leave because Tommy left Im wondering though if Tommy didnt leave at least partially because Danny was suggesting there would be an open QB competition in spring ball. Skokna and lots of players reach the point where they are moving in in life. Tommy already scoring a TD at his home state at Michigan State has gotta be icing on the cake. What a career.

I think Chaves said on his podcast that the 1:00 game was a request/demand when the contract for the game was signed, so hopefully they try to plan a later kick for future openers. Anyway, **lightbulb** the reason for my post is that perhaps this could be a good cause for looking into some type waterfoul/hunting promotion, aimed at getting more hunters to the game. Maybe give people with waterfoul stamps a free beer, or do something camo related, etc. Could maybe lead to a sponsorship of some sort with ND Tourism, Cabelas, or some other company within the industry. Just voicing a random thought. sorry.
tnt
Romfo definitely has to be better, as Schuster had 19 TD's and 5 interceptions last year, while Romfo has 4 TD's with 5 interceptions already. He obviously should be given a bit of grace since he isn't a veteran, but as a game manager, those numbers have to improve drastically.
The Sicatoka
At least one, if not two, of Romfo's "short badly" passes vs IdSU were late reads/realizations that "on target" would equal "pick six".
