burd Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Talk about sad changes from the old days. Hockey games in Madison at either the old Dane or the Herb, especially against the Sioux, were a real fun experience. Their band, the goal card guy, their cheers calling out an opposing fan . . . . Times have changed. The atmosphere at the old Ralph (and barn before that) was intense: at Badger venues it was like a big party celebration. Quote

It wasn't the regular season. UND split with Wisconsin, in Madison, in January of that season, losing the Saturday night game (the infamous "water bottle" game). Two weeks later UND swept the Badgers at home in a couple of really tight games. That series pretty much secured the regular season championship for UND, which was important because all rounds of the playoffs were played at the home of the higher seed, including any NCAA playoffs before the Frozen Four. UND and Wisconsin met up at the old Ralph for the WCHA championship playoff series in March. This was a two games, total goals series, and UND lost the first game in the bloodbath that you referenced, 9-0. Sort of made the second game a bit of a challenge to work up any enthusiasm for, but Wisconsin won that game as well, 3-1. The only significance of that game was bringing the season series to 3-3, with the 7th and final game in the national championship game. Also has a special place in my heart, because as I've posted on here before, I own the original NCAA championship banner for that season that hung in the old Ralph until the flood of '97. 1 10 Quote
cberkas Posted December 1 Posted December 1 I remember the 2011-12 team that was dressing every player including Tate, with fans asking if Tate could play defense or forward. That team won the Final Five for the 3rd time in a row. This team could be that team if they all buy in and play for each other. 1 Quote

High aspiration for a team that plays with no urgency, no passion, no consistency, cannot complete a basic pass & has a hard time, get this, shooting the puck on net.. all these flaws still uncorrected with the midpoint of the season soon approaching no less. A hockey version of the '70's Stepford Wives. 3 Quote
SIOUXELEVENS Posted December 1 Posted December 1 Nothing too see here, 38 in the pairwise , no basic skills, no discipline , no fire from the team and at the fnd of the day a coaching staff that seems clueless. Time to change something. 2 Quote
Oxbow6 Posted December 1 Posted December 1 A few of guys are injured and many others are drastically underperforming. Bad combination. On paper this team should be a solid top 10 team. Too much talent not to be but the eyeball test every weekend is completely different. Have to get on a NCHC heater starting next weekend. 2 Quote

That team that had like 9 healthy forwards and Dan Senkbeil having to play forward because they were so short of bodies. 8 game winning streak with three lines in March. And people hated Hak.... 4 Quote
SIOUXELEVENS Posted December 1 Posted December 1 The good thing is Omaha, Miami and Duluth are below us in the pairwise. Quote

brianvf Posted December 1 Posted December 1 11 minutes ago, gfhockey said: Which is gunna make it hard to gain ground They still play WMU twice, SCSU twice, DU, CC, and ASU and only have one series each left with UNO, Miami, and UMD. That's 14 games with teams above them in the PWR and 6 games with teams below them in the PWR. That gives them opportunity to move up...if they want it and can take advantage of that. Based on what we've seen so far, it doesn't seem likely. But the opportunity is there. 3 Quote

This year I’ve tried to keep it positive, but this is getting extremely close to a rock bottom situation. Especially how bad we’ve been in the NCAAs. It’s getting dicey. 3 Quote

We're done with the non-conference portion of our schedule and the team is sitting in the middle of the PWR field. Which makes this a very average team...and that lines up with the product we've seen on the ice. There are games remaining that could improve their PWR, but them actually winning those games...let alone going on a run that would make a substantial impact on the PWR... seems highly unlikely unless something dramatically changes. 1 Quote

Agreed. And they can’t really split, they need something like a DU sweep on the road, etc Quote
