Quote UND has the rights to the 2026 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game. It will use that to play another showcase event away from Grand Forks. Secondly, UND and Ralph Engelstad Arena officials have started to zero in on a location. The current frontrunner is Austin, Texas, the Herald has learned from multiple sources. Quote They have not signed a contract for an opponent yet, but UND has communicated with Michigan State about the possibility. The Spartans are currently experiencing a revitalization under second-year coach Adam Nightingale. UND has played a hockey game in 28 states, but it has never played one in Texas. cberkas Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Might as well have the game in Ottawa with how far the arena is from Austin. For College Hockey Inc. this could be a good opportunity to get two ACHA Texas schools like Texas and Texas A&M to play before the game. Good way for College Hockey Inc. to try and expand the game. 3 Quote

Subscriptions are how they stay in business. Besides, $14 per month is worth it for great coverage of all things UND and local news. I think we're lucky to have the writers we have. 3 Quote

dden3 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Seems like this arena would be a at too small. I’ve been to NYC and Vegas and both had a lot more attendance than 6 or 7K. Must be some GOBC thing going on here. Quote

I gladly pay the monthly fee for the Herald subscription, even though I live in AZ now. UND's hockey coverage & content is the envy of every NCAA school...I hope that continues. 3 Quote

AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 San Diego has a nearly 13k arena close to the airport and relatively close to Hotel del Coronado, which is a bucket list hotel. Hopefully this sells out quickly and demonstrates that the sweet spot is a little larger than they are aiming for here. Palm Springs has a nice new arena as well with 10k seats. They also just opened the first surf park in the western US. Florida is littered with arenas in the size range too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_indoor_arenas_in_the_United_States 3 Quote

With the last two games there were empty seats and I think it would have been better for some to just hold off on purchasing tickets from those who ordered too many and they could probably have better seats as well. I know I considered just waiting to purchase seats from those who overbought, but with the smaller arena that might be risky. Hopefully we would have already had a destination game earlier in 2026, if they could manage to make the Frozen Four in Las Vegas at TMobile. Quote
