What does he actually do day to day? These salaries are ridiculous.

He makes ~80% of what his counterparts in Fargo and Brookings make. Not sure about the new guy at USD, but guessing on par with him.

I am confident that UND could've offered him 130K and he was still gone

You think SDSU would have approached him to be a position coach if he was already making 130K?  I doubt it.  They'd have to offer him as OC.

From what I can tell, Freund had a signed contract to coach at UND this coming year for 104K.  SDSU is paying him 105K.  I think UND tried to counter after that, but I don't know how much more they were willing to pay.  SDSU's new OC will be making 115K this year, only 10K more than Freund.

Pretty clear Freund didn't leave because of money.  However, more money could have probably prevented serious talks about coaching as a SDSU position coach from developing.  Probably wouldn't have even take that much more either, if they would have been willing to pay him what he was worth from the get-go.

Also, Landry was hired at 100K.  So that actually kind of pisses me off if UND was only willing to pay Freund 4K more than a replacement.  UND under valued Freund, clearly.

Money wasn't the reason he left.  Big picture, its been laid out very well by plenty of people

Right, that's what I said, when I said: "Pretty clear Freund didn't leave because of money".
Which is different than paying him enough to stay because of money.. UND eventually offered more, but too late, and not enough.

If you say too late and not enough you are saying money was a factor.  It was not at all.

He was able to make a non-money decision because the difference in pay was insignificant.

Also, if he was paid more, SDSU wouldn't have been able to afford to match/exceed his UND-OC salary, with an offer as a position coach.  He didn't take a pay cut to go from an OC at UND to a position coach at SDSU.

So I watched our OC press conference and then I watched the Bison conference….I think we got the better end of the deal….

glad you brought this up.  I don't think I've ever seen a more un-inspiring presser introducing new coaches.  No enthusiasm at all.

With a total meatstick running the show.  Far cry from Kleiman and Bohl

The SU head coach and staff…I look for more ladies using exterior walls for restrooms. The team may have sunk to a new level. Everyone looked like they were drowsy from taking Benadryl.

Now our OC spoke well in front of the camera, talked about specifics, and talked about possible scenarios. AND that rather sexy 5:00 shadow, no tie, top button unbuttoned on his white shirt, and a plain white t-shirt showing. As a woman, I thought the overall impression was fit for the cover of People magazine.

I'm not a lady but liked his presser.
