Yes he was a really good goalie too

Coached baseball against him multiple times. Above average catcher and solid hitter. Really impressed me with his physical appearance compared to the rest of the athletes on the field. Definitely loves to compete.

Yup. Most of his tape though has him at the DE/OLB spot so be interesting where they put him.

That's why my hopes are tempered here...he's a classic "tweener"...not big enough to play DE at the D1 level...not sure if he's quick enough to be an every-down MVFC OLB.  If he was coming in as an 18 year old kid I'd be thrilled...but he's got one year.  That's not a developmental signing...it's an impact signing.  I really hope I'm wrong because by all accounts he's a great kid and a college grad...but we need help on D, and I'm not sure we're going to get much here.

Good observation that I agree with but I think this is a shot we take, agree with the attempt.

while we do need every down help at DE and LB, our biggest need is getting off the field on 3rd down……specifically 3rd and 7 or more   Not going to fix everything all at one time but if the staff can find a way to get one or two guys here that can rush the passer consistently, and improve a little on the back end, the defensive numbers will look better

I agree though, I don’t know enough about this kid to know if he’s that guy

I thought their last guy was but he's now at USC coaching LBs.

The USC gig aside...you saw the trajectories these teams took post October 14th, 2023, correct?   Apples and oranges my friend, big time.

I agree...and I definitely think it's worth a flyer (especially if not a full ride).  But I saw we had an offer out to a 265 lb. JUCO DE that has the body type I think we should be looking for in a DE.  I'm just not sure this kid is twitchy enough to be an OLB at the FCS level.  But he wrecked a whole lot of NSAA offensive linemen!

There are talent upgrade needs along our entire defense.  I would like to see us address them more aggressively than we have...and typically that involves players from a higher level.  Maybe we swing and miss...but I'm to the point where that would be preferred to going down with the bat on the shoulder...

Offer out to a couple D linemen. One of them had a tweet out that he was deciding in the next couple days.

chaves quietly extending bubba 3 years

Danny went in to meeting with them expecting chaves bubba to let Danny know bubba will be retiring and he will be named successor and he was blind sided with the plan they wanted to put in place. Danny was more scared about having a bad year this year and everyone getting canned if they didn’t perform so elected to go with the safe money
