They are not paying attention to the action for a good share of the game, as they ramble on between themselves about such things as Vernon being born in San Jose, etc.. I wish that Midco would hire a real play-by-play announcer, as the one they have now either doesn't want to do it or doesn't understand what the pxp guy should do. I know a lot of people on this board think very highly of Alex's performance, and he really does seem to understand the game, but he gets side tracked during the game when action is taking place on the ice. Listen to most of the NHL announcers and you'll get an idea of how the game should be called. Make your comments during stoppages of play! One game, a couple of weeks ago, I put a stop watch on him during the second period of the game. I ran the stop watch when he was actually calling the action on the ice. Out of over 8 minutes of game time, he only did 47 seconds of actual play by play! That's just ridiculous. I think the guy could do a good job of PxP, so what is the problem. He and Brandt need some direction from someone so they can do a better job. Really all they need to remember is that when action is taking place on the ice, they need to limit there "floating" discussions and let Alex call the game. The time for their discussions is when play is halted. If you are doing football, there are a lot of times when action is not taking place on the field, so comments/discussions don't detract so much from the game (they maybe even may enhance it), but hockey is not a sport with a lot of stopped action. My son probably said it best when describing the rambling commenters: He said, "It's like when you are sitting behind a couple of guys at a game and they just keep jabbering on, and on, while the game is taking place." To a point I agree. But on the other hand, I don’t necessarily need to hear his words to see what’s happening in front of my eyes. It’s a telecast, not a radio broadcast. Doesn’t necessarily have to paint the picture. 1

Alex Heinert is doing NCHC PxP for CBS Sports Network for a reason. He's by far the best PxP in the NCHC, hands down. I can't think of another PxP person on NCHC.TV that's better. Surely not the crew that did the substandard broadcast from Omaha. I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting picked up by a bigger network, ie, doing other CBS Sports events or for another network. He can call football, hockey and basketball. We don't have anyone better in our area. He'd blow Sweeny or Hammer out of the water. If you watch the NHL or other hockey games on a regular basis they all do this. Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley in Boston, the Wild Announcers Anthony LaPanta and whoever is in the booth with him. Just to name a few. I'd be careful what you ask for.

You are right about not having to paint the picture for us viewers, I'm not requesting that. But it would nice to not have to mentally tune out the off-topic jabbering while play is going on. I do, at times, mute it when it gets to the point of intolerable distraction, but I also like to hear the crowd reactions to what is happening on the ice. They could do a good job of covering the game and add to the enjoyment of the viewing audience, if they would harness their visiting with each other while play on the ice is taking place.
The Sicatoka
Might I suggest turning down the TV volume and listening to radio (Hennessy) using https://www.learfield.com/sync-my-game/ .

College hockey pxp as a whole sucks nationwide. So saying he is hands down the best in the NCHC isn't saying much.

You have your opinion of what is a good pxp hockey announcer. I have a different opinion. CBS can take him full time, if they would like. He would do just fine as a football announcer, but I would prefer to have a different approach for hockey. Naming LaPanta as one of the best leaves a lot to be desired. He's not much more than a cheerleader for the Minnesota teams. At least Mazocco and Woog did the games in a much better way, even though Mazocco was also a big "cheerleader" for the Gophs. Thank you for the info. I had tried in the past to do this, but the radio feed didn't always come through that well. I will be trying to do this in the future. Tim's the best, but does he still have Ole as his color guy? I just have to get past some of his habits to appreciate him.

Godsmack
Nobody could touch Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby “the brain” Heenan. They were the best tv tag team announcers bar none!
ChadR
Sanderson is hurt again. Had his hand skated over on Sat night. He'll be seeing a specialist to see if there is tendon damage. Doubtful for this weekend I'd guess.

For Sanderson’s sake, hopefully there’s no long term damage.

The team has done well without him this season, but it's hard to replace his skill on the ice for sure. That said, it's playoff hockey. Wrap it in gauze and get out on the ice. I remember him making a diving play in the crease toward the end. We needed him out there, though, not like Sioux were up by 5.
