Steve Kuhlman’s plane has been buzzing around interesting places as well.

Vermillion?!

It doesn’t seem that long ago when everyone was talking about needing someone young and hungry that wants to bring the fire and win.  That is actually Isaac, which is why the players are all in on him.  He has made it clear with the players already that there are changes coming and the level of intensity and aggression needs to get ramped up and ramped up hard.  It is that kind of intensity that makes me want to give him a shot. I’m not all that interested in bringing in a 50 to 60 year old coach at his last stop in a career mostly developed prior to the addition of the portal and NIL money.  My hope is that we get someone in place that understands the reality of present day college football and is so damn good we are having to look again in a few years.  At our level, that tells us we have had success in getting the right coach and will need to keep repeating the process the more success the program has.  While I get the experience level at head coach is lacking, he does have perspective from both the FBS and NFL level and not just whatever we have done at UND for the last 30 years.  I also get that he was part of a staff that did not have the success we wanted globally this year, but he managed to take an offense with an entirely decimated and inexperienced offensive line and a rookie quarterback with a whole lot lot of limitations and still put an impressive number of points on the board.  The problem this year was not the offense.  Talk to the players.  Isaac has the fire and determination to win and won’t be scared to make the changes needed to make that happen.  I really hope he gets a shot.

I like him.  His intensity is noticeable.  Only concern I have is not knowing full story on QB situation.  In some of those games a change was needed and not made. Could be a learning curve for him as well

We don't need anymore "nice guys" as coach. Look where that has got us.

I don’t disagree one bit.

Priority needs to be coaches who are proven winners, specifically as coordinators or head coach, and not as a position coach or player.

Issac was mentioned as an up and coming coach.  Offense was quite good with limitations.  With a better defense easily another TD per game.  The players respect him.  Bring in a defense and we are competing for the MVFC title.

All roads seem to be leading to Caruso, Baldwin, and Bolte being the finalists.

If Kelly mentioned Joe Woodley today he is likely in the conversation.

That wasn’t the story that the flight data was telling but who knows

There are so many other good, if not better, candidates. Remains to been seen if they’ll apply, but I really do think we have to caution ourselves against wanting the guy  the players want to get the job. These players did not accomplish much in 2024 and may just be looking out for themselves. We all know an outside coach is going to be more aggressive in bringing in “their guys”.

Advocating strongly for Fruechte at this juncture is actually settling, because we’re not considering the overall field of potential applicants at all if we do that.

None are young, up-and-comers. Kind of a bummer if these are the three

No to Caruso and Bolte, yes to Baldwin

#1 Beau Baldwin - issues are age, perhaps, and poor performances his past few seasons (Arizona State, Cal Poly) haven’t been good, but he did excellent as a head coach at EWU and did quite well as OC at Cal. He’s my #1 because of proven track record as a head coach.

My #2 is …

#2 Luke Schleusner - successful runs as offensive staff member at SDSU, knows UND and the Midwest, and as of late, he’s been doing very well as OC at Idaho. No head coaching experience, which is negative compared to Baldwin, but he’s a good recruiter and teacher, really a young innovative offensive mind in college football with the age and future prospects to look to move up and bring UND to new heights on that journey upward. As for defense, he could bring defensive assistant coach Hunter Hughes (2011 Football Scoop Division II Coordinator of the Year and Former West Texas A&M Head Coach) with him from Idaho.

I don’t disagree that I want youth but probably the best hire of last years cycle was Curt Cignetti….. Bolte is only 47. If he wasn’t at Bemidji but at another D2 school, I think there would be more of an appeal from the fan base.

Hadn’t looked him up before. He seems like a solid choice.  Bolte, Johansen would be the others to round out a top 3.
