Spence Nowinsky jumps off the page to me. Successful MAC DC with lots of ties to the midwest based off his coaching history. Mankato grad. 2 Quote

Siouxperfan7 Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Not sure if someone mentioned his name before, but what about Todd Hoffner from Mankato? 13 seasons coached for the Mavericks and they are 122-30 with 7 Conference titles, 9 playoff appearances, and a National Championship in 2019. Also, He was born and raised in Esmond, ND!! 3 Quote

Shawn-O Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Caruso would be a great get but he's a UST lifer at this point. Finalists next year if it comes down to that, in no particular order: *Freund *A MAC coordinator *An FCS coordinator out of the Big Sky or MVFC *A D2 head coach (likely NSIC). 1 Quote
MNHawk Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 After seeing their offenses over the past couple years, I’d contact the Idaho OC long before I reached out to the UND OC. 1 Quote

A lot can happen in a year, but I'd guess he'll continue to hitch his wagon to Eck, which seems smart as things stand. Quote

UND-FB-FAN Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 This is an interestingly speculative thread. When the job opens, *when*, then I suspect a name or two will throw their name into the hat. As for now, there is no job opening, and there might not be for a couple seasons yet … very frustrating indeed. Quote

This is something we should be pushing for because the defense this year was unacceptable. Something major needs to change and it’s not just a personnel problem. We can’t endure another season of poor defense. 1 Quote

The game has passed the current head coach's defensive philosophy by. I don't see another DC being successful. Hope I'm wrong! 1 Quote

Like some people were saying, scheme doesn't necessarily matter, but you've got to recruit well to whatever scheme you're trying to implement. Blitzing on 3rd and long will work if you get home. But if you don't, that's a lot of open receivers downfield. So maybe don't send that many on the blitz if your defensive athletes aren't better than the offensive athletes. 1 Quote

The jimmys and joes are just as, if not more, important as the X’s and O’s. Turner would get home on 3rd and long often. We didn’t have anyone even close to that level of speed off the edge this year. Hit the portal hard. We need edge rushers. Also, how in the hell do we have 0 LB recruits right now? 2 2 Quote

A DI program - whether FCS or FBS - needs some top end talent if want to be a national championship contending program. 1 Quote

We also have bigger bodied DL that redshirted this year. I really hope they can step up next year. But OLB is Rucker and nobody else. We can’t survive with that. OLB is the position that saves the secondary. We need athletes on the edge and a lot of them. Quote
