  1. If we count the COVID year, Bubba is 83-71 and 1-6 in the playoffs in his head coaching career across two different schools. How long do I have to have faith? He’s at 154 career games. Once he gets to 300 career games can I start judging him based on his mediocre results and setting expectations accordingly?
  2. If you’re curious how a DeBoer tenure would have looked like at UND, you should take a look at what Troy Taylor’s tenure at Sacramento State looked like. That’s the best comparison in my opinion. DeBoer wouldn’t have been here for a decade, but he would have taken a struggling program and quickly built one of the best FCS teams in the country.
  3. Has Landry called plays before? I assumed that Caruso was the play caller at UST. They are definitely running the same Caruso offense that they ran in the D3 days.
  4. Probably super seniors with COVID years that are considering returning or transferring , and potentially the all-MVFC 1st team LB who is a sophomore.
  5. After seeing their offenses over the past couple years, I’d contact the Idaho OC long before I reached out to the UND OC.
  6. Spence Nowinsky jumps off the page to me. Successful MAC DC with lots of ties to the midwest based off his coaching history. Mankato grad.
  7. As a lifelong UND fan, over the last couple seasons I’ve started to watch less and less. I watch the first couple of games until it becomes clear that we are mediocre again, and then I start to scoreboard watch on my phone and spend my Saturdays doing something else. This program is just not really interesting at all right now, and I think the fan base is shrinking as a result. If I had to guess, I’ll watch even less in 2024.
  8. 7-4 with a first round exit. Never would have guessed that before the season.
  9. If we do go through a coaching search, I would love to see us draw from a broader pool of candidates than just guys with UND ties. Jeff Thorne and Spence Nowinsky come to mind as seemingly good coaches with successful track records and are familiar with the Midwest. No idea how interested they would be, but hopefully we consider those types of candidates.
  10. Gotta stay aggressive offensively even with the lead. Can’t get conservative in the second half. Make Freund watch some film of the Richmond game a few years back as a cautionary tale lol.
  11. I don’t think anyone should be excited to see a coordinator step away in mid February. Tough time to find a new coach, many guys that were available after the season have already found new gigs. My uneducated guess is that we will promote from within.
  12. Let’s set some expectations for next year so no one can say we are moving goalposts throughout 2023. What would Bubba have to do in 2023 in order for you to be happy to keep him for 2024? Make the playoffs? Top 8 seed? Quarterfinal appearance? I would need to see a quarterfinal appearance or a second round appearance+a win over NDSU in order to feel like we are moving the program forward and be happy keeping Bubba for 24.
  13. Is there any reason to believe that this is a possibility?
  14. I 100% agree that he won’t be going anywhere for what it’s worth.
  15. Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but given all the coaching talk: I just saw that WMU is letting go of their head coach. I wonder if some FCS programs won’t look at Jeff Thorne. You have to think he would be a great hire for a lot of Midwest schools.
  16. We didn’t beat one last year either. In fact I’d argue we’ve lost our last 6 opportunities to have a statement win. 2020 @JMU 2021 @SDSU 2021 NDSU 2022 SDSU 2022 @NDSU 2022 @Weber Those are the games where the coaching staff should be earning contract extensions in year 8/9. I know these are tough games, but I’d hope in year 9 we would at least be competitive and winning a third or a quarter of these games. Instead, we’ve shown a complete inability to take the next step as a program and beat these elite teams.
  17. We finished with between 4 and 7 wins in 18, 19, 21, and 22. Our last four full seasons. Seems like a reasonable expectation for next year. Given that consistency, it would require significant off-season news in order for me to move off of that expectation.
  18. If we had beat Weber at the Alerus yesterday, and then went to Bozeman and got out to a 24-0 deficit in the same way that we lost to Weber yesterday, I would still be questioning the inconsistency of this team. I would still be asking why this team does not seem ready to play each and every game. I would still wonder why this team seems to play below its potential for long stretches of games consistently. And 2 playoff wins in 9 years is still not good enough.
  19. I’m shocked at how many people are impressed by our offense after these last two games. With four minutes left in the first half yesterday, we had two first downs and four punts. Our offense did nothing for the first 26 minutes of the game. A big reason for the 24-0 deficit was that our offense did nothing almost the entire first half of the game (and then got bailed out by the refs). Our first quarter drives against NDSU consisted of two punts and a fumble along with three first downs across the three drives. We went down 21-0. Our offense didn’t come out of the gates prepared for either of these games, and you can’t give away an entire quarter or half against good teams. The defense needs upgrades, but the offense has to be able to stay on the field when the defense is struggling.
  20. Fair enough. Salary comparisons are probably more complex than they appear on the surface. It does seem that Bubba’s salary would allow us to have a competitive budget for a new hire, but I’d be interested to know if someone has done more research on how UND’s salary+bonuses compare to the salary+bonuses of others.
  21. Oh cmon. I wish UND paid much higher salaries to football coaches, but they certainly pay enough to make competitive hires. Bubba makes more than Brent Vigen.
  22. I don’t think it’s a good idea to hire a “UND guy” just because he has a UND background. For those of you who would like to go that route, what makes you think Danny is a better option than Jake Landry or Luke Schleusner? Even if we do stick to UND grads, I think there are better or equal options to what Danny offers.
  23. The goal of every hire should be a program changing guy like Jay Hill or Troy Taylor. Eck is looking like one of those guys as well. I’m not sure that we have one of those within the program.
  24. Even if that is the case, we still have to be able to win big games on the road. If we win this week, we are sent to Bozeman for an even harder road game.
  25. Rudy was pretty good at stopping offenses IMO.
