So what's the number?

33 must be too low.

What's too high?

> 50

Imo, it has to be someone where this won’t be their last job. I can be easily convinced though. If the spin is, “young” 58 and checks every box, not only from a coaching side, but also charismatic, etc. Going up against the SU’s, the new coach needs to be dynamic. Is Hoffner?

Let's put some (likely) assumptions together:  The new HC will be a current D2 HC (Bolte is my preferred at this point).  The OC will be Fruechte.  Who's the DC?  Special Teams?

Baldwin would be out (52).

I would hope so. The last 10 years is so incredibly underwhelming. He’s the one that brings the least amount of enthusiasm when I think of him as the next coach.

I wouldn't put that as anywhere near a guarantee.
And as much as I like the current OC, I want the new HC to build his own staff.

are we doing this correct?  normally doesn't the new HC bring in who he wants?  are we "telling" our new HC that fruchte is so golden that he's your OC?  what if the HC we bring in has successful bc HIS oc uses the tight end and play action and whatnot and now your telling your new HC  ....nawh leave your bro behind and learn to love isacc.....

We are bringing in a defensive guy.

I met Hoffner when he was at Minot State (briefly). In my short interaction, I recall him having the “It” factor as a coach. Seemed confident with a bit of swag.

He walked in to a bar in Minot wearing a Duster coat, hardly interacted with anyone. He doesn’t have the “It”.
No it was not a Saloon either!

No idea if we're doing this correct.  Been a lot of Fruechte OC talk on here, so it seems most are comfortable with that.  After all, there must be a reason why first-year Fruechte was chosen interim instead of more seasoned staff members.  I also think it's plausible that the new HC maintains at least one existing staff member for player and recruiting continuity, and Fruechte seems most likely.  Really what I was after is who people want leading the defensive side, which (ironically) has been biggest disappointment for many many years.

I want UND to hire a coach that is so damn successful here that we have to hire another coach in 5 years because the coach we hire no is moving on to being a HC at an FBS school!!

Path, not destination.

Let’s will Travis Johansen into existence. Seems like the home run pick. Someone whose goal is to build and move up.

I am definitely high on him too. How does he stack up against the preferred qualifications?

HC chooses his own staff. Present staff knows it. HC may keep some of present staff.  Depends on who and how many he brings with him. Keeping guys who can recruit and who are liked and respected by players can help with transition and recruiting.

it's getting a little confusing with all the wishlists....

johansen doesn't meet the criteria ?  correct?

He would meet the minimum but not all of the preferred I believe

Caruso’s youngest is going into final half of senior year of high school.  Timing could be right if he’s interested.  He’d warrant serious consideration. One 6-6 season isn’t a “downward trend”.

I'm in....thought he didn't make the cut...didn't know there was minimum and preferred req....  He's high if not top of my list.

And we promote the dc from the year prior.
