Could Isaac Fruechte and Brian Bergstrom be reunited?

18-16 head coaching record is not good enough, but his record at South Dakota State as an assistant if factored in would raise the winning percentage.

Baldwin is not currently an head NCAA coach, correct?  Seems more like a posting meant for Brent Bolte.

Brent Bolte, yes, but not much experience beyond Bemidji State.

What about Todd Hoffner (his winning percentage at a Minnesota State is even more impressive)?

UND would likely be a "final destination" job for Hoffner.

That’s the concern here on the forum, but doesn’t sound like that is being selected against per the job listing preferences.

Historically, Chaves has hired current head coaches at the division II ranks, so the preferred qualifications are not surprising. This makes me think we will hire a current Division II head coach …

Is it too simple to just say recruiting, recruiting, recruiting? Is what is not working currently a scheme issue or a talent issue, or both?

You are correct, we need more and better athletes.  Bubba and company through the years were adequate, even above average with X's and O's (Maybe not Rudy), and team culture.  BUT, below average in recruiting/talent, roster management.  Excellent with team GPA however as we are constantly reminded.  The next staff needs to have an eye for talent regardless if it's instant through the portal or developed with HS kids.  The 3-4 defense is viable but we could not get enough of the right players, probably easier to run 4 man front.  But again the failure of the 3-4 in part was lack of talent.

Let’s also not forget about Jerry Olszewski at Augustana. I mentioned his name about a month back, and would be worth mentioning since the job listing is heading towards division II head coach …

From former job listing's Dec 6 is the earliest date from an (internal?) hire can be announced if you wanna follow the "rules"....

The rules changed at State level after the "chuck the pigskin" fiasco.

If an outsider with no UND ties fails I can't wait to lead the charge of "He knew nothing about how things work at UND and in Grand Forks."  It's getting a little silly at this point that if you had a first cousin visit North Dakota in their childhood that disqualifies a candidate.

Smokin Joe for HC!

Brent Bolte is intriguing me more and more.  He would know what it's like to recruit players to a hockey oriented school against more football-minded rivals further south.  Worst record as a HC is 7-4.  Comes from primarily defensive side of the ball (played and coached linebackers (my favorite player position, BTW), was co-DC and DC before HC).

@UND-FB-FAN is Baldwin known as a great recruiter? I could be placing way too much emphasis on age tied to the qualities I'm hoping to see (Charismatic, Confident, Swagger).

I'm just trying to keep an open mind to all.

I definitely understand your point, but in the past, UND connection it seems was preference over other prospects and considerations. Nobody wants that to happen again, especially since we missed on Kalen DeBoer.

Then we could miss the next “DeBoer”.  The next head coach needs to be the best person for the job regardless of what schools he has played or coached at.

Fortunately, no one with that philosophy will be making the decision.

Seems like someone who learned with him/under him for 8 years and would likely get his endorsement should at least be considered.

How do we know Schmidt didn’t get an offer to stay on at Washington or Alabama?

He did but wanted to call plays.

My question on him is how has he been at Bemidji since 2000? What ability/connections would he have to fill out a staff?
I don't know what their roster looks like but what does his recruiting experience look like.
Definitely an intriguing name and every candidate is going to have some questions on their resume, those are just the ones that stick out to me.

I'm a huge Bolte fan...If you can win in Bemidji you can win anywhere!  Also...if we value big game performance on the road his Beavers team has won 2 straight playoff games on the road, and 4 since 2021.

That said...his loyalty to Bemidji will likely hurt him...which sucks but that's how the world spins these days.

His OC Karson Pike is a dude too...there's a lot of talent on that staff!

60% or above wtf

I mean...that's too low for expectations going forward...but what if you had a guy apply with the following 5 year records:

1-10

3-8

7-4

11-2

15-0

That's a 60.66% win percentage...

Just sayin...
