Impressive Pothole development

Was up for the weekend, very impressed that the development of the pothole network around town... bidness was booming .

Although with a just a jackhammer and a little bit of effort that one 30 yard stretch of good road could be filled in with a few more rim shattering depressions.

Washington between S 17th and Gateway is ridiculous.  Just so you Grand Forks people are aware, other ND cities are not like this right now.  There's more than just bad weather responsible here.

Sounds like a pavement issue.  Wonder if they ever got cores taken to analyze the mix?

They just had a big story of complaints on KVLY the other week in Fargo.

Not even close to the worst in town. There's a couple roads (Cherry St in particular) that I will voluntarily take Washington instead of.

We are prefer the unplowed roads in Minot. Keeps the potholes filled.

No idea who or what is responsible, but Bismarck, Fargo, and Minot potholes aren't nearly as bad as those in Grand Forks, so it's gotta be more than just the weather.  Whether it's due to poor initial construction, poor maintenance, or something else should be looked into by city leadership.

This is also  my opinion... I can get north south in Bismarck anf Fargo without the bone jarring and swearing that went along with moving about Forks this past weekend.

It was brutal, i was planning on shopping at a few places  but the prospect of dealing with the traffic and roads kept us back at hotel.... i guess we did deem the happy harrys trip as reason enough... but anything else was a nah

Mix design, base, time of the year when it was laid down, etc.  All could easily be reviewed.

These are roads that have blacktop overlay on old cracked up concrete streets.

Do you think it might be because of the chemical treatment they spray on the roads before snowstorms? Just a thought.

It's not a coincidence that certain high profile roads were allowed to degrade in the year leading up to the sales tax vote in Grand Forks.  

They will be fixed this Summer but the city had to make sure people understood last Summer/Fall that the "only" way possible to get roads fixed was to approve the sales tax.

But the tax was passed before the snow started melting exposing all these potholes?

Yet the plan to fix them have been in the works for a couple years. There are only so many projects that can be done in a year and there hasn't been a lack of large ones that have impacted traffic recently.
