UNDBIZ Posted Friday at 02:31 PM Posted Friday at 02:31 PM https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/kris-engelstad-gives-statement-in-support-of-fighting-sioux-trademark-seeker Quote Kris Engelstad, daughter of Ralph Engelstad and trustee and CEO of the Engelstad Foundation, said the foundation stands with Tyler Wilson, who is seeking three Fighting Sioux-related trademarks. UND can't legally transfer the trademark and 2. this would mean loss sales for UND. For Kris to weight in is just dumb. If Kris wants the name and logo back, cover the cost of changing the name back and any future legal matters with the NCAA. Personally with all the losses the NCAA has taking lately now would be the time to do it. But it will take backing of someone with deep pockets willing to spend the money. 3 Quote

I agree that now would be the time to do this. The NCAA is not what it was 20 years ago when they put their edict in place. 2 1 Quote
Popular Post iramurphy Posted Friday at 08:26 PM Popular Post Posted Friday at 08:26 PM Not worth the money or the hassle. The NCAA will be only part of the problem. The tribes didn’t unite in favor of the name when it could have made the difference. We can better spend the required millions on Coaches salaries, upgrades to the Betty, NIL funds etc. To resurrect a dead issue that doesn’t win games, that doesn’t improve results, doesn’t improve coaching doesn’t make sense. Just my opinion. The legal issues can be debated by attorneys but I only see it as a negative issue that will take focus away from any positive happenings. 3 8 1 Quote
Nodak1883 Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Honestly the nickname issue is a dead horse that people want to constantly bring up over and over again because of "Heritage" or something to that nature. Can anyone actually point to anything besides hockey or Athletics in general that used "Fighting Sioux" as part of the brand identity for UND? I certainly don't remember anything done compared to the level that is the current branding and messaging for UND. The tribes weren't unified in liking it, so who are we really bringing the nickname back for if we went back to it? 5 1 Quote

Seems like the new/younger hockey fans think it's as easy as just declaring that we want the name/logo back. It was much more than the NCAA just asking UND to retire the logo. 3 Quote
