So we get something not cartoonish and that's all wrong because it's too corporate/abstract. When it comes to logos I see them fall into one of those two categories. This process was doomed to failure before it even started. I will wait for the next logo to come out before I buy anything with a logo on it. Suddenly the "North Dakota" merch isn't looking so bad. In my opinion, when the initial assessment is "it could be worse", you have failed at creating a new logo. And expectations were low to begin with. The Sicatoka Posted June 24, 2016 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Regarding not using the interlocked ND in the future: I seem to recall when the version used by North Dakota was updated, from this to this, there was great noise as well. I recall letters to the GF Herald editor calling for Faison's head. My point? The interlocked has not been this great, unchanging constant that some claim. Well the Football program spent years not really embracing the logo, now they are embracing the new logo and name. In contrast the Hockey program really embraced the fighting Sioux logo and Identity, and now they are not really embracing the new nickname or logo. The teams all have their own different sub cultures and styles, and the logo and font style doesn't really look great on hockey, especially considering the for hockey the tendency is to go for an older or more retro look rather than futuristic 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The alternate NYI jersey is clearly not. Winter Classic jerseys are "trial balloons" for the future. The WCoH jerseys are somewhere in between. But I do understand what you are saying. I think the new font on the hockey jersey front would be fine, but that logo is a shoulder patch unless they simplify it down to be like this. This is patently false. I know from first hand experience. Football players loved the logo and name and took great pride in it. Just because it wasn't prominently displayed on the jerseys doesn't mean we didnt "embrace" it. The word "Sioux" was used in practice, on gameday, during offseason training and in everyday social interactions with great pride by coaches and players alike. We wore shirts that said "Sioux Football" and had the logo on the front. We loved it. Football jerseys and hockey jerseys are different in style in that you rarely see a big logo on the front of a football jersey. There's no room because there is a number on the front. In hockey there is no number in front and primarily there is a logo or name prominently displayed. It is what hockey does - always have at most levels. Typically on football jerseys you see the name of the school or the nickname (in smaller font) above the number. UND football incorporated the logo the best they could with it right below the neck line in the 2000's. They also had the word "Sioux" on the shoulder of the road whites before the jackasses at the NCAA decided to get into the social engineering business. They have always had the ND logo on the helmet for traditional reasons. I agree it would have been awesome to have the logo on the helmet too but the tradition was the ND logo. That logo is now gone as well. So now they are placing the new ND logo on their helmet because quite frankly, they need something to put on there.
