If Zimmerman and Boltman pan out really well with a serviceable 3rd option then maybe in 2018. I feel we just can't career him at back-up QB. Quote

Can't imagine this guy, with the clock ticking on 3 years of eligibility, is coming in with any other expectation than competing to be the #1 guy. This coaching staff's mantra since they were hired has been that no one's guaranteed a starting position. After this season ended, Bubba, IIRC, identified QB play as one of three areas that needed improvement. Don't know Studsrud personally, but he strikes me as a high character guy who's respected by his team mates. His biggest attribute on the field, aside from leadership, is that he doesn't seem to make a lot of costly mistakes. But I suspect his mobility will be limited in the future due to injuries, and in terms of overall play I think UND was just average this year at the QB position. Quote

I sure hope he could come in and be the #1 guy. IMO, he would need to be head and shoulders above Studsrud, otherwise there would be a huge QB controversy the first time the kid plays an off game, and that is never good for a team. Studsrud has shown that he can get the job done, but I agree that this is an area that we could improve. 2 Quote
ND1 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Studsrud is an average QB, good game manager and will be the starter in 2017. Zimmerman will probably be the man in 2018. Quote

FlinFlan80 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 I would think they roll with Stuts again this year, with Zimmerman as a quality backup. Would not be surprised at all if Brad H. gets moved to TE or WR. I would guess this will give him this spring to show any possible development as a QB and if he isn't as promising as they once hoped, he is moved. Bolinski throws a nice balls and is crafty, just a lack of size. He will develop into a quality backup and Boltman coming in is promising too. Quote

Don't we already have 5 billion TE's on the roster and have recruited 2 more in this class? I doubt he gets moved from QB this year, like another poster said that is one of our thinnest (and most important) positions and unless Bolinski really steps it up to beat out Brad as the number 3, and even then I don't think it happens. The last thing we would want to do is burn Boltman's redshirt to play one half of football if we ran into injuries. Zimmerman seems like the perfect pickup, 3 years left so he can bridge the gap to Boltman and also enough experience to play right away if needed. Our offense dictates the QB to run a little and you hate to have the QB run completely off the table because you are so afraid of getting him hurt. Not saying Keaton should run 15 times a game, but 6-7 times a game.....yes. 2 Quote
petey23 Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 The biggest benefit for UND would be if Zimmerman came in and established himself as at least 1B which would allow UND to give Keaton the green light to run when the option is there more often as it was obvious they had him on a short leash this season due to the lack of a back-up qb they were confident in. Pinke redshirted. So, UND has three TE's coming back and plays two damn near all game. Devore might be a TE but still could move back to DE. They need at least two more TE's in this class. Quote

With the type of OL UND has been recruiting lately (good frames but needing to add weight), we could see more OL recruits who don't pan out transition to blocking TEs. Quote

But it wasn't all the time. I suspect he's had some work on his mechanics and he reverts at times. Quote
