90siouxfan Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Does "directly after" refer to a set time frame, say 1 second? Does each face off have a winner? I'm considering becoming a statician and seems tedious and prone to error. Just like saves, I have been an off ice official and know the discrepancies in that process. Quote
UND1983 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 WTOY candidate. Next thread: "Why UND's goaltending could actually be their downfall". Quote
Snake Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Faceoff win % on the season..... UND 53% BU 49% Just curious what the percentages are without Mac...that's the relevant stat. Regardless, it will certainly be important to start plays with possession against a skilled team like BU. Quote
SiouxTupa Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 UND got dominated in the dots against St. Cloud WITH Mark Mac earlier this year. Saturday, they won by 10 without him. I'd say they've been working on it. Every game is different. Zane brought that up in the post game presser when talking about the first goal. They work on faceoffs and study opponent tendencies. geaux_sioux Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Don't get mad at me, I didn't make the useless thread. So useless you feel the need to post in it Quote

Old Time Hockey Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 This thread only exists because of the loss to Mark Mac. If he is in the line-up we are better than an average. When he went down, the Sioux had a string of games where they lost the face-off battle on a nightly basis. This weekend you could see them getting better. Geaux has a point though. Face-offs need to be a focal point on preparation for the Frozen Four! Consistantly losing draws in the defensive zone is a recipe for disaster this time of year. Quote
Old Time Hockey Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I can think of a couple lost draws during the last decade of the NCAA tournament that were devastating to our squad. Quote
UNDBIZ Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 New thread title..."If Zane let's in more goals than we score, we are going to lose" You're wrong! It's "If we score fewer goals than Zane let's in, we are going to lose." Quote
Big A HG Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 So useless you feel the need to post in it The thread is already here. Are you suggesting I create another useless thread explaining why this thread is useless? Quote
Siouxphan27 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Elite hockey mind here- We could win the frozen four by scoring more goals than allowing. 1 Quote
tnt Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 This is ridiculous. We need to stop finding things to complain about. Exactly. Sometimes I think the perception doesn't meet reality. Even when the numbers have been good in the past on the power play and other things, we still get people saying how bad it is. Quote

That is true, but no matter what, you are going to lose faceoffs, so it's a matter of what you do after you lose them, and hope that someone doesn't rip the perfect shot, or get lucky with a deflection. Bottom line is that if they score off a faceoff people will say it was a huge problem, if they don't, not quite as much. Quote

Bottom line is that if they score off a faceoff people will say it was a huge problem, if they don't, not quite as much. The SCSU first goal was a good example of how it can cost us. After that the whole team locked down and they didn't get any opportunities like that again, they were all blocked. QU owned faceoffs but we won puck battles. Quote

OshieRoll Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 This is NOT a chink in our armor. Minnesota was the best team in the country at faceoffs and they won 55.6%. Here is how the 4 teams still alive have done this year and their rank in the category: 5. Providence 54.4 % 10. North Dakota 52.9% 38. Boston University 49.1% 44. Nebraska-Omaha 48.2% For comparison's sake SCSU was tied for 30th in the country and they won exactly 50% this year. We won 57.5% of our faceoffs against them on Saturday. One goal off a faceoff early in a game does not mean a trend. You and your friends might want to make a group trip to the eye doctor. Quote

He was our reliable faceoff guy. We've improved since he was injured after that rough stretch but there is a reason people push for simo to be in the lineup and that is because he's one of our best faceoff guys. However you want to look at it this could be the one weakness of this team. Everything else looks solid right now and the scoring is so spread out that its not like a team can just focus on one line to keep us off the scoreboard. Quote
jdub27 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Just for actual reference, UND is at 51.7% vs. 52.9% if you pull out MacMillian's faceoff numbers which would rank #21 in the nation. Quote
Feff Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 You know what I think could cause us to lose the Frozen Four? Giving up more goals than we score... 1 Quote
