I heard Mike Snee of College Hockey Inc say on a podcast, maybe a year ago, that they would probably start with a club program, with the goal being to eventually elevate it to D1 if possible. I would add one thing to the writer's conclusions. When looking/comparing different ACHA programs you need to throw out the D1/D2 labels. There are D2 programs that are much better, better run, better coached, and get much better fan/student support than many D1 programs. The D1/D2 label can be deceiving, D1 doesn't always mean better.
