Personally I think the regular season champ should receive some reward.  It's hard to win a regular season championship, and I was all in favor of giving the regular season champs an auto bid.

But I also like having the tournament auto bid that we have now.  It gives everyone a chance, which is kind of what the tournament is about.  It's what made the basketball tournament what it is.

The problem is that if we give both auto bids (the ideal), we're basically down to four at large bids.  That's a little dicey.  Maybe boost it to 20 teams with 4 play in games?

Don't know that there is a good answer.

The B1G tournament should be interesting. Literally every team in the conference is fighting to extend its season. That should lead to some intense hockey. We will have to see.

The regular season champ does get a reward.  They get to play the last place team in the league.  A conference champ should be able to handle a last place team in their barn in the first round of the league playoffs.  Also, they get the top sead in the conference tournament the next weekend.  If not, that's their fault.  CC not making it was a little crazy.  But they can't blame the system for choking at the end of the year.

Technically it wouldn't leave only 4 at large bids, as the regular season champ could win the tournament championship as well, but I see your point.  The regular season means alot considering PWR an seeding in the conference playoffs.  But you have to reward the conference tournament champ.  Gives the tournament meaning.

The Big Ten brackets show Minnesota playing the winner of the Penn State/Ohio St. game.  They must not re-seed after the Thursday games?  If Wisconsin beats Michigan, you would think, as the lowest seed, they would play Minnesota.

No re-seeding, just like last year's tournament.

Was at that '94 series between CC and Tech at the old World Arena. Man, Jamie Ram stood on his head all three games. Lucia's first year at CC, took them from worst to first that season. It sucked not getting into the national tournament but I'm not bitter about it...CC failed to take care of business at home. Plus, the post season tournament only consisted of 12 teams so there weren't many at-large bids so CC's margin of error was slimmer.

I know we are all disappointed that Mac is gone for the season, but there is no payback for the injury needed. That was just a dumb luck injury with Mac doing what any of the players would have done in a 5 on 3 PK. If I remember right, we did beat them 3 out of 4.

I agree ^

On a related note, BC has missed the Hockey East semifinals two years in a row.

#FIREYORK.

I got that beat.  The Gophers haven't even won a conference tournament game since 2008.

C'mon ... really?

Does that include opening round series (in the old WCHA)? <-- EDIT: Gophs have won first/opening round games; but otherwise ... ouch.

I had to look that Minnesota conference tournament stat up:

2009: Lost to UMD at Final Five
2010: Failed to advance beyond first round (UND)
2011: Failed to advance beyond first round (UAA)
2012: Lost to UND at Final Five
2013: Lost to CC at Final Five
2014: Lost to OSU in Big Ten semifinals

I heard something like that recently.  That is simply stunning!

I knew we had sucked in these tourney's lately but this stat surprised me as well. And the past 3 years we've been the #1 seed as well.  For once it would be nice to go into the NCAA's on a good note.

I don't see Minnesora winning the Big Ten tournament, especially with it being held in Michigan.

UMN better reverse this trend, or they will be golfing early.

I wonder if it's a difficult adjustment for those guys not to go down when they miss a putt

I once saw Kyle Rau fall down on a tee-box from the loud back-swing of a guy on the hole beside him!  (Guy on other hole got 2 for interference too, damn refs)

So in 2009, 2012, and 2013, MN lost the 3rd place game too?

They haven't exactly lit the world on fire in conference tourneys held in their own backyard. Maybe a road trip to Michigan will be good for them?

I don't believe there were third place games in the WCHA tournament.

Checked it out - the last 3rd place game was 2010 (Wisconsin over Denver 6-3). League expanded to 12 teams in 2011 and 3rd place game was scrapped.
