I'm sure he had some influence on him leaving after watching how badly UND struggled against Canadian colleges. His dad was an NHL exec But with needing his rights traded to Calgary, it's highly unlikely that this process didn't get started before last weekend. Orchestrating a last minute rights trading then cloak and dagger abandonment of current commitment to generate a position where a kid just shows up and is inserted directly into a line that produces........ Doesn't sound like something a former NHL exec would have the time to do......... Are you really looking forward to that ECHL $25k per year for three years followed by $15/hour in a mine or mill for the rest of your life?? scpa0305 Posted January 9, 2014 Share Posted January 9, 2014 There are some good players that leave the Major Juniors and play in the USHL, BCHL, AJHL, etc.. that would benefit playing in the NCAA rather than playing for CIS teams. I doubt there are a ton of kids that leave the CHL that go backward to the USHL, BCHL, AJHL, etc....pretty sure they simply go the CIS route (if they are done with hockey for the most part) or go to the ECHL, CHL, FHL, Europe, etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

His numbers will look better playing 80 games a year, he scored a goal and 3 assists in his first game. He will be allowed to attend the Rangers training camp and play for them at Traverse City, which I don't think the NCAA allows. But will he add the muscle to play at the next level? Even the Rangers said he would need 4 years to fill out. Now they will have to sign him in 2 if he's ready. Time will tell. Miller fast track to the NHL, and he is getting his larger paychecks sooner. So you really can't blame him as a 20 year old. His next contract will be 2 years sooner had he played for the Sioux. Leaving your team in the middle of the season for purely selfish purposes is just wrong and shows a lack of character, maturity and patience. Those are things he will need at the next level. It should come as a surprise to noone that a former WHL player would tear up the Alberta league or perform better in the USHL. NCAA football and basketball a player has to opt for the draft and baseball is odd that a player can be drafted but if he doesn't sign with the team that drafted him then he can still play in the NCAA and be redrafted the next year. I'm not sure the Rangers didn't sway his decision, even though they said it was up to him. I'm just saying Miller had some options that played in his favor. He got to play for the Rangers at Traverse City tournament with the rest of the Prospects, and attend a Pro Training Camp. He plays his 1 year in junior, then started his entry level contract the next year playing in the AHL, and got bumped up and played 26 games for the Rangers. Do I forgive him leaving us at the last minute NO. Has he produced a lot of points for the Rangers not really. Personally I think he would have been better served playing at UND for 2 years. However, Kristo played 4 years, and Miller has outplayed him so far this year, and is again on the Rangers roster. So I'll have to tip my hat to Miller, for making the jump, and getting his money sooner, plus his next $1M contract will be 2 years sooner. Miller also got his signing bonus the day he inked his deal. If you can get the rookie max deal or darn close, you'd be crazy not to take the money and skip college. So he forced them to trade for him, and they did. It's easier playing against younger, smaller, opponents. That's a given looking at his first game. He just wasn't ready for this level of hockey, it's easier to play with your buddies and not have to go to school. I'd say this...some elite level talents have specific talents that their team needs more of than others... Danny is a second line winger project. Miller can play anywhere in the lineup. I was hoping the Kristo would get a shot right away at the beginning of the year. But his play away from the puck was not as strong defensively. Miller was stronger on the boards. Miller seems to be the bubble boy for the Rangers this year, and Kristo will probably be right behind him. Now Kristo is leading the Wolfpack in points and goals, very much how Nelson did for the Sound Tigers last year. If he keeps scoring goals, he'll get his call up sooner or later. That's what I'm reading about him. Miller really hasn't scored for the Rangers, but he sure had a great 1'st impression, scoring 2 in his first game. That bought him another 20.
