brianvf Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 My thoughts: -Penalties on Kristo and MacWilliam. Both horrible penalties that you never want to see your "leaders" taking. Kristo's cost the team a goal and Mac's cost the team a chance at scoring the equalizer. -MacMillan's goal was a beauty. Just a great individual effort. -CC's first goal was incredibly weak. Saunders needs to make that stop every time. The last two games have shown a pretty lackluster effort from UND. Time to step it up and get the split against CC before making the big trip to Mariucci. Oxbow6 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 As someone posted earlier CC has 2 wins in last 13 games...both vs UND. Very poor effort w lots of passengers out of the 18, then get shorthanded lineup coupled w STUPID penalties and you get the result that happened. CC is lower half of WCHA for a reason. Their skill top to bottom is not very good. To give away 2 points at home at this time of year vs. a team like CC was hard to watch. Our D was soft and brutal...you could sit 3 of 6 Dman from last night for their play. It was Gleasons 2nd straight poor game though but CC has/had trouble w his speed. Clark has to start playing more consistent. Softies then great saves. 1st goal was pathetic and set tone for rest of the game. Be surprised to see Drake tonight. It was a head injury. Quote
Goon Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) Here is the video fo the highlights and hits to include Drakes and Mac's penalty late in the game... If you watch the video of the MacWilliam hit, you will see Brad Shepherd yelling at Mac telling him to get the F#ck off of the ice. That's unacceptable in my opinion. Oxbow6 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Shep and Andreson are horrendous...period. They are so inept it's comical. Consistently inconsistent. Their constant yapping at the players is as if they are trying to aggitate them intentionally as to instigate something. Quote
J.B. Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 That was a dumb play by Mac. Guy laying on the ice and you give him a shot after just laying him out? That's a penalty every time...he had no reason to be surprised or mad at that call. I thought the same at first but actually the guy was playing the puck as he was trying to get up and Mac finished his check. Quote
Snake Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I've used my lip reading skills to see Hak dropping f-bombs toward the officials while they're at the bench, so I know it's directed both ways. If it happens between the coaches and officials...fine. But, directing it at the "kids" is a bit over the top in my opinion. Granted, these aren't "kids" we're actually talking about, but respect is earned and if the officials expect respect from the players they need to hold a higher standard when calling penalties, escorting players to the box, discussing things with coaches, etc. It's funny how one week in this league you can have a kid from a non-conference school assessed a penalty for yapping at an opposing coach, but then turn around the next week and witness officials treating the players in an equally egregious manner. 1 Quote

Good post. IMHO when the officials start throwing around the f-bombs and yapping it just makes things worse. Granted, they get yapped at a ton, but the good officials just make the call, escort the player to the box while they're getting yapped at, and drop the puck. Old WCHA official Mike Schmitt officiated a few of my high school games. Did a tremendous job just making the call and not worrying about what the coaches had to say or players after the fact. I had some great discussions with him during the games (I was a goalie). Of course the jerk always took drinks from my water bottle. Quote

Completely agree the officials worry too much about making a statement at times and really shouldn't be getting involved in yapping at the players. Some officials need to learn to just make the call and skate away from things. Quote
dagies Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I'm going to go ahead and not blame this loss on the officials. They are crappy, and inconsistent. But they didn't blow this one....UND did. Exactly. CC was called with a bogus penalty on a clean hip check. I think that penalty allowed the Sioux to tie at 1, if I recall the sequence correctly. Quote
sprig Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 On the other hand I think we need a total of 11 referees/linesmen on the ice, so we can have a full "huddle" after every whistle. One period now lasts almost as long as a whole football game anyway. Quote

Wilbur Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 A couple of things I think that would make things smoother with officiating and keeping the game going because officials come to the bench entirely too much: ~Minor penalties non negotiable. Just go serve the penalty. If it was tripping then obviously the reff thought it was a trip. The whole lobbying that goes on just drags things on. Nobody's mind will be changed. I've never seen a penalty un-called. ~No negotiations on non penalty calls (icing, offsides, faceoff placements) ~On a too many men penalty when the official comes over to notify the coach, the player must come with the official immediately to the penalty box. Last night CC stopped the game for about five minutes when they didn't send someone over.....resting their top penalty killers. ~Not allowing coaches to call for reviews (which I think is already a rule, but is broken). If the officials on the ice all concur on a goal then its a goal. No pulling a Gwoz or Hak last night and stopping the game for ten minutes to review the play. Quote
jodcon Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 The officials have done this to themselves by getting drawn into arguments...make the call, get the guy to the box, if they don't go to the box in a timely fashion call an additional delay penalty, and drop the puck. It's not a debate, and the call whether right or wrong is not going to change. The coaches have the right to bark and ask for explanations on questionable calls, but there's no reason for a ref to listen to a players life story everytime he makes a call. Skate away and get the game going. If officials listened to all the crying that goes on from players and coaches in basketball or football the games would take 5 hours. Quote
Irish Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Gotta say that once again I was not impressed with our defensive corps. Other that Mac, we're not very physical and he seems to have the knack for doing it at the wrong time. That's fine if you are great puck movers, but that has not really been the case. Our break-out seems to struggle at times. We're often out of position and have some horrible give-aways. I know their first goal looked soft, but our D man served as a great screen. Gleeson continues to underwhelm. Remember when our D-Men were feared? Quote
AZSIOUX Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 Panz brings much more to the game than Gleason. Gleason is a hell of a teammate and good skater but that's it. panz can do exactly what he does plus being physical and way more responsible. Wonder if chyzk or odonnell get the nod or maybe both? What a goal by easy Mac holy sht... Throw Rocco up top or with parks and Rowney maybe ? Get a solid win tonight, big 2 points for the boys ! Go sioux !! Quote
sioux hockey is the best Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 saunders has to stand tall let in some soft ones the Sioux gotta get back to what led them on the 7 game winning streak gotta come out hungry play a full 60 get the spllit all u can do now and let the others teams play there games and we'll see where we stand at the end of the night we're right there sioux FANS Quote
Oxbow6 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 A win tonight puts record at 8-3-3 in WCHA. As poor an effort/game last night not a bad league record w 2 games in hand Quote

I think Hak goes back to forward lineups vs HC plugging in Rocco for Drake. Panz had to play tonight to eliminate some of the soft D play. Quote
Wilbur Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Saunders made enough great saves to make up for the softie right away. Would be nice to see the fellas get up tonight and just keep their foot on the pedal for sixty minutes. I don't want to throw tonight into must win category, but going into Mariucci next weekend won't be easy. Quote
