Sodbuster Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Calvary and Roughriders are equal in my book. Why don't you think people would go for Calvary? Seems like a very popular choice. Personnally, I don't like those singular-type nicknames like "Cavalry" or "Storm". Just my opinion. Quote

Blackheart Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Every time I make an argument for Cavlary I get ripped so I chose to keep it simple. Not the best idea with people on this board. But I will say this, that the new name needs to be something that people can really get into cheering for and can be a great logo at the same time. I might not be explaining this the best. Nothing can replace the Fighting Sioux, so I just want something really good. Not explorers, oilers, something better. The fans and citizens deserve it to be awesome! Agreed. Quote
siouxfan68 Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Similar to Explorers, but with a connection to the area might be Voyageurs. I also like Express, with a locomotive or train logo. Quote

dmksioux Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Calvary and Roughriders are equal in my book. Why don't you think people would go for Calvary? Seems like a very popular choice. This would be one reason...people tend to say Calvary instead of Cavalry. Quote
bincitysioux Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I like Reapers the best, but also like Cavalry.................................... I don't care for Roughriders........................ And by the way, Sicatoka, I think you stole the Reapers idea from me. Quote
DamStrait Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 "Pathfinders" - all figures in kelly green, of course - and the middle image may have to be omitted in order to prevent the hyperventilating of those with ridiculously hyperactive sensibilities (academics that live in fear of offending their own shadows, those of their ilk, their apologists, etc.). The Sicatoka Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 And by the way, Sicatoka, I think you stole the Reapers idea from me. Good post by you from June, 2010. But I posted the concept in May, 2009. (See posts 26-28 at link). Quote
bincitysioux Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Good post by you from June, 2010. But I posted the concept in May, 2009. (See posts 26-28 at link). Damn, sorry about that. Great minds think alike? Have to admit that I provided a cool-ass potential logo though! Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Have to admit that I provided a cool-ass potential logo though! See here, posts 691, 694-696. PS -- You need to integrate the colors into the logo, like this. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I liked the owl video That is pretty sweet video. I see something different in it every time I watch it. Quote
sioux34 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 From the halls of Twamley ... "The Gentle Inoffensive Breeze" ... This is the best guess I have seen so far of what the final name will be. Just be assured, it will be hyper politically correct and yet suck at the same time. Quote
UND83 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Calvary eh? Would be quite a powerful logo. dmksioux beat me to the reason why I think Cavalry is not a good option. Too many people get it mixed up with Calvary in spelling and pronunciation. As for JohnBoyND7's logo, I'm still wiping my computer screen off of the bevarage I was trying to drink when I saw that post. That is hilarious! 1 Quote
zonadub Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 From the halls of Twamley ... "The Gentle Inoffensive Breeze" ... or "Omnipotent Leaders' Desires For All Right Thinking Socialists". I will let you come up with your own acronym. Quote
johndahl Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Calvary and Roughriders are equal in my book. Cavalry and Roughriders are my two favorite names as well - both are good, traditional-style team names, with a strong tie to our state's history. John Quote
GeauxSioux Posted August 3, 2012 Author Posted August 3, 2012 Once upon a time, about 5 years ago, PCM had some great Cavalry uniforms posted. I can't seem to find them. Pat, do you still have those?? Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 How about the UND Bombers? We have an Aviation school. We have an Air Force Base (as does Minot). The Unmanned Ariel Systems mission is taking off at Grand Forks AFB.It's simple and straightforward, which North Dakotans (and Midwesterners) always like. It's not wimpy (like Sundogs, Flames or Spirit).I could think of some really cool logos we could use! What say you all? Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 How about the UND Bombers? And if they aren't playing well? Too easy. Quote
Blackheart Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 How about Grand Funk A-Holes? Wait, that's the name of my group in Rock Band. Quote
tnt Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Cavalry and Roughriders are my two favorite names as well - both are good, traditional-style team names, with a strong tie to our state's history. John We could just be the "Fighting 7th". Hey, George Costanza was going to name his kid "Seven", why can't we just be the 7th. Seriously, some people would be offended by the Cavalry. We can't be proud of Sioux heritage, and I would think some would find fault if we took pride in our own heritage with Cavalry as well. That is how it is with the politically correct crowd, no rhyme nor reason. Quote
Blackheart Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Well Phil Jackson and one of the NA nickname opponents (Ron or Jesse) both expressed support for Roughriders as the new name...that's pretty much the same as Cavalry in my book...surprised they would be in favor of any such name. Quote
