So they're taking their Men's BBall program which has been steadily becoming stronger and stronger and putting it in a conference with a basketball rank mostly in the 20's where it had been in a conference that was around 4,5,6 or 7 ranking wise depending on the season. Wow, Football dictates and the rest must capitulate is how it goes I guess.

San Diego St should practically be a lock for the Big West men's autobid. The Big East is also going to schedule SDSU four times/ season, so that should help their RPI. The Big West is actually a very good conference in certain things, like volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball. Moving to the Big West will also save SDSU a fortune in flight costs for their Olympic teams, as most of the Big West is in the LA metro area. They'll probably actually save on travel with the Big East/Big West combo, compared to the MWC.

Does the Big West now go to 12 schools? If so, Sacramento State might be moving on from the Big Sky. San Jose St would get the nod over Sac State, but SJSU needs somewhere to put their football team.

Would the Big Sky pursue another team to replace Sac St?

The Big Sky would still be at 10 members (13 football): no need to unless Montana and MSU left.

Depends on what happens with Idaho and the WAC.

Sac St football would likely stay in the Big Sky, with the rest of their sports moving to the Big West.

The difference between Sacramento State pulling their basketball and other Olympic sports out of the Big Sky and the admission of UC Davis and Cal Poly's football teams is that just that - Sac State is already in the Big Sky and would be pulling their other sports out of the conference. Will the Big Sky say "OK, take your other sports and leave your football team"? That is actually not a move forward for the conference like adding Davis and Poly football. Did they really set a precedent that applies to Sac State?

Sac St AD Terry Wanless had an interview several months ago, where he stated something to the effect that Sac St can't generate rivalries in the Big Sky, and that a league with more California schools would be a big bonus for them. Personally, can't believe that Sac St would have voted to include UCDavis and Cal Poly in football unless Sac State also received assurance that if it was ever offered Big West membership, that it could obtain the same deal. Sac State can't generate interest in the Bball program and the program is made even less interesting by playing non-California schools. Having Sac State in the Big Sky doesn't really make the Big Sky any money - and certainly not from broadcasting rights which was the original hope when adding them. So the bottom line IMHO is that Sac St will be let go on their terms if they get a Big West offer. That's one of the reasons that the Sky wanted UND and USD, as the Big Sky finally threw in the towel on their California experiment. (The Big Sky added Cal St-Northridge and Sac St when Idaho and Boise left).

The problem for Sac State is that the Big West doesn't necessarily want them either. The Sacramento market is already covered in the Big West by UC-Davis. What the Big West wants is San Jose St, as it doesn't have any presence in the Bay Area.

The Big West adding SDSU is also causing a lot of concern at UC-San Diego, as their hopes to go DI seemingly have gone down the toilet with the SDSU move.

Apparently, the Old Dominion AD has been on Norfolk radio stating that talks are underway in New York City to start a new FBS league. The league would likely include:

FIU

FAU

Ga Southern

Ga State

Charlotte

Appalachian St

Old Dominion

James Madison

Delaware

maybe Towson or Liberty

Technically, the NCAA doesn't allow a new FBS league can't just spring up from mostly FCS teams. But with all the realignment, leagues like the Sun Belt or the WAC could just become a shell of their former self that these schools could then occupy.

Liberty? That may shed some light on why Turner Gill is taking that job.

“If we look around, we can win this game,” he (Fullerton) said. “In three or four years, there will be three football playing conferences left in the West — the Pac-12, the Mountain West and us.”

Fullerton predicts the WAC will eventually become a basketball conference.

“Is there a school in the WAC that’s not trying to go somewhere else,” Fullerton asked. “That’s not a good sign.”

I believe what he's saying, but to say it publicly ... Ouch.

Navy joining Big East for football only in 2015: http://www.washingto...ciNQ_story.html

With BE losing Syracuse, Pitt and West Virginia and not adding TCU, they're down to UConn, Louisville, Cincy, South Florida and Rutgers as football members. In 2013 they'll add Central Florida, Southern Methodist and Houston to get back to 8 full members that play football in the Big East and 8 full members that don't (or don't have football). Also in 2013 they'll add Boise St and San Diego St as football only members, which will give them 10.

So is Air Force still in the MWC for the long haul? Or perhaps will Army join Navy as a football only member of the Big East? Army joining makes more sense to me of those two possibilities given they're actually in the east and adding teams across country just for the BCS autobid is about to become moot.

I would also send Boise and San Diego back to the MWC, once it becomes official that BCS autobids are dead. Big East champion is never going to the Orange, Sugar or Fiesta bowl again!

any word from idaho, nmsu, sjsu, and utah state about what their future plans are now with c-usa/mwc merger?

16 teams announced but they say they want anywhere from 18 to 24 schools in the new conference so they need a few more...not naming them now could be a bargaining chip to get them (idaho, nmsu, sjsu, & usu) to promise more funds to stay competitive in the new conference (like SCSU with the NCHC)...

is this merger the death of the wac for football?

hopefully the bsc benefits somehow with idaho the most likey to join?

From what I've seen on eGriz among others the thinking is that the merger might end up with as many as 30 teams, including the 4 you mentioned. The teams will play in their own general geographic region until the championship, and most will try not to play their own conference for their OOC games, which should be good news for the BSC and others.

This is all speculation at this point, but it sounds like WAC football is on life support.

Well, it seemed like every week he added another guy to ignore list. By now he probably has the entire board on ignore. ;)

He sure has a lot of insight on the conference dealings. Too bad he isn't here providing it

What is the thinking among Montana fans? Is this a conference they feel they would jump at? There are several schools in the BSC and the region who could potentially be good fits for this conference if they are seriously thinking about expanding to 30.

They've been discussing what this means and if Montana would/should be interested if approached but I don't see Montana going anywhere for a while, they seem committed to staying in the BSC, especially now that there may be only the Pac-10 and MWC/C-USA in the West it would make the BSC a bigger cog in western US football, which should help recruiting in the areas where Montana likes to shop.

You could probably make a case for the 2 California schools, but I don't think they would want to go either.

With the Conf USA/MWC merger they say they want anywhere from 18-30 schools to join the new conference...just a thought. Obviously leaving out some schools from being included and assuming some schools go to the sun belt or other conference but this would be a sweet model considering the new conference would do semi's and a conference champ....semi's north v south and east v west with the winner having a pretty nice championsip game.
