Despite the posted numbers, attendance was definitely light at the Ralph this past weekend, and I really wonder what it'll be like next weekend when even the season ticket holders have to pony up $52-$62 for tickets.  I'm not sure if REA or NCHC sets those prices but I can imagine a lot of empty seats.  Seems like gouging to me and they should be priced lower to ensure more butts in the seats.  It's also sprint break for UND and the public schools, which isn't going to help sell tickets.  More butts at less $$ is better than an equivalent $$ from less butts and higher ticket prices.  Fill the place up and make more money on concessions, although "dollar dogs" would also be a nice touch!

The Frozen Faceoff always had this issue when it was in St. Paul. The league tried to replicate the WCHA Final Five for so long that I think fans have been turned off by it.
My personal belief is that UND fans are banking on going to Sioux Falls and would rather spend their money on that and/or the Frozen Four in Vegas (which UND is the host).

From the few scenarios I ran, to get the #1 overall seed either UND needs to win the Frozen Faceoff AND have Michigan St beat Michigan in the Big Ten Championship OR UND can lose to UMD or the title game AND have Michigan and Mich St lose in the semifinals

Augastana as the host team has to be placed in the Sioux Falls regional.

augustanas seeding will likely dictate if UND will be in Sioux Falls.

Augustana will get in, UND will get in, and the next two games for each team will determine where UND goes.

best case scenario- UND is #1 overall, Augie is #12, both end up in Sioux Falls.

If UND is #1 overall, they will go where the #16 team is and that might very well be Holy Cross (which is hosting a regional).

Most likely, but if it isn't Holy Cross, they could send the 16 to Sioux Falls and send Augie elsewhere.

Typically the #1 overall is "protected".

- is going 1200 miles to play an effectively home #4 (SHU) protected?
- is going 400 miles to play an effectively home #4 (Augie) protected?

With six of the top eight NPI being "west" the committee will end up shorting someone.

If Augie ends up being the 13/14 seed it's going to make it an uphill battle for UND to get placed in Sioux Falls IMO. (with the assumption that UND takes the #1 overall seed)

  • Augie is way too far behind Wisconsin it looks like to jump to 12
  • They'll keep Augie there + probably send Duluth there to help with attendance.
  • Veryyyy slim odds they would break the bracket integrity since not only would UND be facing the 16 seed, that 16 seed is going to technically be around 25-30 in the NPI)

Augie can easily move up if Dartmouth or Cornell lose this weekend, which is certainly possible. Wisconsin is tough to pass since they only lose one more time.

After winning the 2012 Final Five, Hak and Lammy (maybe MacWilliam too?) took the opportunity to voice their placement preference in St Paul as a one seed (but not 1 overall) during the post game press conference and voila, there they were the next day. If we are number 1 overall Jackson and whoever else will do the same.

A normal Saturday game is about $49 so it’s not much higher but I see smaller crowds
