It was suggested on here that he said he didn't care about the people second guessing his goal line calls against NDSU because of he had Big 10 and NFL experience.  Maybe said it at Sioux Boosters.  Just wondering if anybody heard that because my 'source' said he didn't say it there.

He said it at the weekly press conference after the bison game.  It's probably still on YouTube somewhere. He also mentioned it's a numbers game and Jerry counted the people in the box and the right decision was to throw the ball. So maybe the decision and play calling wasn't totally on him, but the way he came across wasn't a very good look. It sort of flipped my thinking of him to be that he might be a little stubborn and defensive.

I get the comments he made are bugging a lot of people and maybe didn’t come off well. But him mentioning the NFL and stuff, pretty sure he just meant it as in he has been under pressure in other situations, so he's not going to get to worked up about people questioning his calls.

Although him saying he wouldn't change anything he did during a few games......... yeah that does seem stubborn etc. as some were just bad. He needs to figure things out by Saturday, stop being so predictable! Mix it up!

What's the story on the B1G/NFL comments?  I think it was stated on here that he said it at Sioux Boosters luncheon.  I asked someone that has been at all of those lunches and is pretty plugged in and he told me it wasn't said there.  To be fair he said he's talked to Ike a few times and he seems down to earth and a good guy.

Real or urban/GF legend?

Watched the whole thing.  Don't see anything wrong with it.  Of course we would like to see better play calling.  Wouldn't matter what he said, people would bitch about it because they are pissed.  Sounds like he took plenty of the blame.  I don't know what more people expect from him.

As far as mentioning the Big Ten, all he said was he wanted to play Ohio St because they were the biggest challenge.

The first question that Tom Miller asked he deflected, and essentially put it on Jerry. Saying that we called RPO and Jerry made the read based on the amount of guys in the box. Of course they're going to be outnumbered you're on the 2 f'ing yard line. Call three runs in a row and you score a TD.

Said Jerry made the right read based on guys in the box and he need to coach it better.  Sounds to me like he says based on what he coached Jerry to do, Jerry did.

Agree run it 3 or 4 times from the 2 and probably score TD.

As a coach or player you need to have confidence in what you are doing.  Can't be 2nd guessing yourself.

I rather have it in the lineman's head(s) we are 100% run blocking compared to Jerry might be handing the ball off.....or, he might be throwing it.  I honestly didn't know you ran RPO from the 2 yard line.  I understand an audible out of something you don't like into something better, but straight RPO seems like an idea from a mediocre Big 10 Player and NFL 1987 Scab caliber player.  Plus, any DC with half a brain can show numbers in the box or vice versa to bait the offense, knowing 1987 NFL Fruechte is Mr. RPO from the 2 yard line.  As folks can gather, I am skeptical of the thought process and direction of the O, and a few comments.

THIS!!! Your O-Line probably has it in the back of their head, "Jeez, I don't want to be too far down field in case we do actually pass it" I didn't play in the Big Ten or the NFL and I know running RPO from the two yard line is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Not sure our OL is good enough for that against really good defensive fronts. Instead of bringing in the jumbo package and getting all the defenders in the box, I think we are better off spreading it out and going 3 or 4 wide, less guys in the box.....but still running it. If we have things spread out and run it 3 straight times I think we get in. If we get 10-11 guys in the box....not 100 percent confident.

Story is when Eden Prairie was in their heyday they snapped the ball on 1 on running plays and 2 on passing plays and didn’t care who knew it.   Suppose could use it to get someone offside late in game in running situations

To me, Isaac was retained as a way to keep the players with familiarity. Obviously, Kostich was too but players were pleading for Fruechte to be the guy. It made sense for Schmidt. However, knowing Schmidt’s desire to be a HC, I have to imagine that he had a short list of OC’s in mind and not sure if Fruechte would have been on it.

I guess I say all that basically saying I wouldn’t be shocked if there is a separation this offseason and Schmidt brings his guy in. Whether that’s Gordie our someone else.

This is what people on here that want instant success don't understand. Schmidt is working with mainly Bubba's leftover guys. They aren't bad players, but they aren't elite either. Good old fashioned recruiting is the solution to this problem and Schmidt looks to be doing a good job on that front.

Give him a couple of years when he has his recruits (and a few portal transfers) on the field and I think we'll like what happens next.

Gordie

A little late to the game here - I've seen this name mentioned a few times.  Who is he?
