Not sure we’ll ever be able to recruit how we did in the mid to late 2000s (those years were fun). But again, it’s a reasonable want. I always have to say this on this board, I do like some of the recruits we have coming in I do. 100% Some blue chips on those teams at the time that’s for sure. 2005-2006 had six first rounders: stafford; zajac; lee; oshie; finley; and toews, and chorney (36th overall) and smaby (41st) weren’t too far behind.
The Sicatoka
Looking back, recruiting is cyclic. That 2000-2010 era the first rounders were American and going the college route. When first rounders become more Canadian or Euro/Russian it's more MJ.
Oldguy
Hockey (& other programs) to have Alston Awards now: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-plans-to-spend-nearly-1-million-annually-in-alston-awards-to-athletes Aug. 1 is the opening day for college hockey programs to offer high school juniors. UND can now inform potential recruits of the 701 Award. "I know some programs are already doing it, the Big Ten, and others at their own pace," hockey coach Brad Berry said. "A big thank you has to go out to Bill Chaves and Erik Martinson for diving into it and making it happen. "You can bring someone to campus and you can show them what you can offer them as far as development, with your program and academically. When you're (recruiting) against some other top-end schools with their budget and arsenal, it's a situation where we now have this and are on pace with Big Ten schools and others who have it." There are more US born first rounders now than ever, at least higher end first rounders. Canada has always dominated the first round. I may have missed the point here however. BUT if you review memory lane and UND's history in 1st rounders: Sanderson, Pinto, Bernard-Docker, Nelson, Oshie, Zajac, Stafford, Lee, Finley etc. = No national title :-( I do believe UND needs to get more commits out of USNDPT team though, 100%

The fact we didn’t win a natty wasn’t an issue with the players during the 2000s, nor was it a Hak issue. Those teams were loaded. It’s a one and done tourney..you need a very good team and a decent amount of luck.

Also gave all 3 schools a 33% chance of getting him so they really went out on a limb there lol.

brianvf
Article on Moorhead dman Sam Laurila https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/recruiting-season-hits-its-peak-for-moorhead-defenseman-sam-laurila Quote Three Fargo-Moorhead players are expected to be among the most coveted recruits in their age group — Laurila, Moorhead defenseman Garrett Lindberg and Fargo forward Andrew O'Neill. Laurila will advance to the U.S. Under-18 Team this fall, while Lindberg and O'Neill will join the U.S. Under-17 Team. UND has showed interest in all three. Quote Don't expect a decision from Laurila right away. While he's already made unofficial visits to UND and Michigan State, he also plans to make a few more before coming to a final decision. Potential future trips include Wisconsin, Colorado College and Minnesota Duluth. "The most important part is the visits," Laurila said. "You have to go everywhere. You have to see it all. That's the most important thing to me in my recruiting process." Laurila said he'll likely make a decision sometime in the fall.

brianvf
What are the odds that we land one or more of the three Fargo/Moorhead studs? Laurila has already taken a visit here but he's visiting quite a few places from the sounds of that article today. Lindberg was compared to Frisch (nice), but also has a brother going to CC. O'Neill sounds like he is coming on strong and getting more elite as he gets older.
