What was Chaves looking for in that meeting or what did Berry say that made Chaves decide to fire Berry? At the same time he said he doesn't make decisions in a vacuum so that tells me he spoke about the possibility with Armacost before the meeting. I'm not totally buying everything being sold. I don't think this sounds so surprising at all. Sounds like Chaves had concerns about the direction of the program, like so many here have posted about their own concerns over the course of this season. If he really does have a standard post-season meeting and Berry came in with "we're almost there, just a few bad breaks, just gotta keep doing what we're doing" plan, then Chaves might have decided "ok, it's time to make a switch". I'm not saying that's what happened. But reading that story and thinking about what he said, this is extremely plausible. Remember the old saw "The simplest explanation is the most likely". 1 Quote

So we cannot automatically assume it will be business as usual going forward. I wasn't a fan of promoting within, but I am more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt to start with. 1 11 Quote

So we should care more about your opinion than knights 🤔. Kidding as i actually agree with you. The proof will be what we see in October and wow does Dane have a lot of work to do between now and then 1 Quote

Assistants only have so much ability to affect things because they are not the ultimate authority. I know this from my career. People know who has the power and who doesn't. Who has the ultimate authority. Doesn't mean assistants are meaningless, but they have less ability to steer the program direction than we might expect. Agree with those saying talk is cheap, let's see what the play on the ice tells us. That said, I'd rather have exp players tell us they think this is a good move, not going "well, if they couldn't get anyone else...." 1 Quote

brianvf Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/how-dane-jackson-plans-to-modernize-recruiting-for-und-hockey Quote The general manager is required to count as one of the three assistant coaches if that person recruits off campus. UND will become the first NCAA men's hockey team to hire a general manager as one of its three assistants. Quote Bryn Chyzyk, an alternate captain on the 2016 NCAA national championship-winning UND team, is the general manager for the Waterloo Black Hawks. He was named the USHL's GM of the Year in 2023. "We’ll make sure we’ll get to a sustainable model of recruiting and developing three- and four-year players that are tied to UND and have a love for the program," Jackson said. Quote "We're hoping (the general manager) will identify key guys and will have done the work to have a good book on them and the person that he is," Jackson said. "Then, Simmer and I, and our other assistant coach that's on the ice, will be working hard to get out there. We're not just going to say it's on (the general manager). That's how we've always done it here. Four guys are going to watch. We're going to know exactly what we're getting." Quote UND was one of the only NCAA teams with all four coaches on the bench for every game this season. That will change next season. "Sometimes, there are only going to be two of us on the bench, because someone else might be out there as well," Jackson said. Quote UND has a second assistant coach position open. That one hasn't been posted yet. "Once we get the first one done, we'd like to move to the next," Jackson said. "It's not quite as important to be in such a timely manner, because we'll have a few guys on staff to kind of work through this stuff. But I would hope maybe in the next few weeks." In the meantime, Jackson and Simpson are trying to complete next season's roster. 1 1 Quote
Walsh Hall Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I like the plan and vision. In regard to the second assistant job posting, is there any rational as to why the position would not be posted immediately? My first inclination was that "our guy" is still coaching and they are waiting to post until the season is concluded. I would love to have Herter on as the assistant/associate HC and Bryn as the associate/GM/recruiting coordinator. 1 1 Quote
