I don't think this sounds so surprising at all.  Sounds like Chaves had concerns about the direction of the program, like so many here have posted about their own concerns over the course of this season.   If he really does have a standard post-season meeting and Berry came in with "we're almost there, just a few bad breaks, just gotta keep doing what we're doing" plan, then Chaves might have decided "ok, it's time to make a switch".

I'm not saying that's what happened.  But reading that story and thinking about what he said, this is extremely plausible.   

Remember the old saw "The simplest explanation is the most likely".

REMINDER:  he was on the staff the last 19 years.  Including the last nine where they won 1 NCAA tournament game and he was the lead assistant.

REMINDER: He wasn't the boss during those 9 years. He took direction from Berry. So we cannot automatically assume it will be business as usual going forward.

I wasn't a fan of promoting within, but I am more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt to start with.

Good thing you weren’t around when they hired Gino, those teams were awful and he didn’t take much time to turn it around.

Talk is talk, show that there is a change once they start playing. 

Me personally I don't care what former players/coaches/teammates say go show it. No more #culture #attheendoftheday time to show it or he'll be gone in 4 years.

Everything starts with the head person.  Assistants only have so much ability to affect things because they are not the ultimate authority.  I know this from my career.  People know who has the power and who doesn't.  Who has the ultimate authority.   Doesn't mean assistants are meaningless, but they have less ability to steer the program direction than we might expect.

Agree with those saying talk is cheap, let's see what the play on the ice tells us.  That said, I'd rather have exp players tell us they think this is a good move, not going "well, if they couldn't get anyone else...."

I like the plan and vision.   In regard to the second assistant job posting, is there any rational as to why the position would not be posted immediately?  My first inclination was that "our guy" is still coaching and they are waiting to post until the season is concluded.  I would love to have Herter on as the assistant/associate HC and Bryn as the associate/GM/recruiting coordinator.

Agree on Herter, great defensive mind, but I don't know what Simpson's role would be then.

I’m getting anxious to see the increased intensity. It seems dj expects 100% effort every shift. Doesnt appear he’ll tolerate laziness either. Go Sioux

Actually he was making 214 grand while Karl made 191 grand
