Add that to coasting the first 5 minutes of the period and here we are

Oh, Berry’s teams have a history of giving up goals less than 2:00 into periods too, trust me.

Yes it's the same thing every year. All these players should have good seasons yet most don't produce on the ice. We realized after Denver won the natty last year how much actual depth they had with how many players with 20 points or more. Something we haven't had since the 19-20 and 20-21 seasons.

But it wasn't the points that won Denver the championship, it was the defense.  Most of those points came in the regular season, where we actually won the league title.  Denver didn't score much in the national tournament, they just held the other team to basically nothing.

I think the point is that you don't want to rely on just a few players to score. Knowing the offense could come from anyone.

@Oxbow6 @Wilbur

I didn’t pay attention to Saturday’s game but here we go again with the usual sleepwalking thru the end of periods…

WMU scores at the 18:01 mark of the 1st and the 19:44 mark of the 2nd.  Unbelievable.

Is that poor culture or not a full sixty?

Agreed.
Also, if they stick around, I could see nice improvements from James, Strinden, Strathmann, and even OMac.  They all have the skill...we've seen it...

If BB is still in charge, expecting any players on this team to improve in 25-26 when almost no one did this year is nothing but 'hopium' (otherwise known as 'false hope' or 'irrational optimism'). If the last 10 months have been any indication, the team will still be inconsistent, basic skills will be absent, there'll still be questionable line-ups, 1 or both special teams will be struggling & there still won't be a clear-cut identity to this team. There may be big victories here & there, but the overall state of the program in the larger picture will be one of stagnation.

Once the downward pull of fate starts tugging on a coach, it's all but over, as Gino, Sertich, Eaves, Lucia, Owens & many others can attest. The UND students, who are probably knowledgeable hockey fans when they're not drunk, were signaling to Chaves more than anyone with their chants that it's time for a change.

Count me as one of those shocked that the students would get to a "fire Berry" chant.  At the same time though, I'm surprised that it comes up as much as it does in common conversations that you have with people around the hockey world.  At least three or four people have walked into my office, seen the Sioux jerseys hanging, and start with a "How long you think Berry has left?".

I am not surprised. People know the reputation this program has for excellence and being in championship contention on a regular basis. And it is obvious that we are no longer that program. And people know this cannot continue indefinitely.

as i have told other people..at some point we will have a new coach, weather we want one or not...so why not now?

So, essentially, if Berry is still coach, you're writing off next season already as well?
Just don't want to get my hopiums up for no reason.  ;)

$500 thousand reasons why

in the realm of things, is that really that much?  you continue to have a program spiral downward, soon it starts to look like UM or UMD during the game...empty seats galore.  how much does that cost?  its time to move on from BB..sooner the better.  need to get ahead of it, rather than play from behind(feels like we are already waay behind, actually)

I don't want to end up like we were in 1994 when Blais took over. That was a total dumpster fire and I am still shocked how quickly Blais rebuilt it. I don't want to go through that again.

Are we certain they chanted this?   I heard some were chanting "We want Hobie"!     Did they chant both things, or did people hear "Fire Berry" when it was actually "We want Hobie"?

What I’ve heard is that Carle is a player’s coach…he actually allows them to play fairly free/creative. It can definitely cost them goals against during the regular season, probably even some losses. But they build up their O. As the season moves on they teach more defensive concepts, etc and by tourney time, they’re a well oiled machine. Especially his D…they have super long leashes.

Sounds like Blais.

But, what does every other collegiate program do? The only way to not pay would be (1) Coach leaves for another job (2) Retires. How often do coaching changes result because of one of those two?

Let’s stop acting like a poverty program.

Let’s stop acting like a mid-major program.
