I don't think so. If you said the job is meaningfully different from 2010, I would agree wholeheartedly.

Dude hated recruiting by the end. Its a tough job. Lots of shaking hands and kissing babies compared to every other CFB job. The administration is not always super football friendly. It is a draining job relative to the other blue bloods.

Notre Dame is always popular with parents. You need to sell it to kids. Freeman was a blue chip kid himself 20 years ago. He's got that dog in him. The only recruiting battles he's losing right now are over guaranteed money or kids who don't want to get a degree.

Kelly did a wonderful job restoring a high floor at Notre Dame. There were many issues he fixed on the admin side and program side. But Notre Dame fans dont want to go 11-2 getting blown out in their playoff game. Freeman said let's make a higher ceiling by bringing in kids and prepare them to win big games. He's undefeated in bowl/postseason games. He's making Notre Dame cool again to people who have hated ND for years...but more importantly, after this season, they might get to start shopping down another aisle at the grocery store.

Everything changed in 2021, I saw a infographic that the UND QB made a $6M playoff bonus and two other players had similar numbers.  Not sure if they are true.  But, NLI money like that changed everything.  And the change to the transfer portal rule in 2021 opened the flood gates.  I am not sure what happened in 2010 you think is big.  But, 2021 was the year everything changed.

1)  When did NIL start? Effective July 1, 2021, the NCAA approved name, image, and likeness policy allows student-athletes to monetize their NIL.

2)  The portal launched on October 15, 2018.[4] New regulations adopted in 2021 allow student-athletes in D-I footballmen's and women's basketballmen's ice hockey, and baseball to change schools using the portal once without sitting out a year after the transfer, creating uniform transfer rules for all NCAA sports across all divisions.[5][6]

Disgusting Question, Great Answer -

Speaking on the field after the game, McGrath told Freeman: 'You are the first Black head coach to go to a National Championship game in college football. Just hearing that response alone, how much does this mean to you?'

In response, Freeman quickly shut down that line of questioning and said: 'I've said this before, I don't ever want to take attention away from the team.

'It is an honor and I hope all coaches - minorities, Black, Asian, White, it doesn't matter, great people - continue to get opportunities to lead young men like this.

That man has what it takes….lots of integrity and humble.Putting his players first!

There is a 0% chance Riley Leonard got a $6 million payment. Notre Dame guys are well taken care of, nobody is throwing that at kids right now.

Even so, NIL had already begun before Kelly left ND. Idk how many schools are better positioned to succeed in the NIL era than Notre Dame, but LSU ain't one of them. Sounds like he made a bad bet if he thought that was the case.

Again, not defending him or dissing the current coach.  Only saying the changes in college sports over the last 4 years would be hard to predict and how the schools would react to those changes would be even more difficult.  Notre Dame doesn't have a history of accepting change quickly so I would disagree with you.  You are working on 20/20 hindsight so yea you are right.

I am hoping for a Notre Dame win over Ohio State. But would settle for a good game. Anything but a blowout.

Right, hope it's not a repeat of the last time ND was in the Championship game. That was ugly.

Not sure how NIL money can be tied to Title IX given that male athetes (outside of some outliers) in CFB and MB generally would generate more of the revenue that is being shared.

Also some amusing comments about how Title IX should be applied, but don't have to look far down the road to see that there are ways around it.

I understood that the court ruling was that athletes can’t be prohibited from financial arrangements/contracts that allow them to benefit from their NIL.

Attorneys feel free to comment /correct me, but if the schools NIL initiatives are owned and operated by private individuals, I can’t see how Title IX comes into play.  With any FBS schools allowing up to $20.5 million and overseeing distribution, I can see how Title IX comes into play. For schools whose NIL funds are raised and distributed by outside of the University hierarchy would Title IX still apply?

If I decide on my own to pay a player $50,000 to wear “Bared shoes”, for instance, and appear in company advertisements, I can’t see how UND, the NCAA, or the feds under Title IX have legal authority to prevent that.

I realize that schools want any and all NIL contracts to be coordinated with the school, but I didn’t think that was part of the courts decision.
