North Dakota has taken injuries. True.

North Dakota has so many advantages over most, if not all other NCAA teams.  Also true

I think we need a change.

@nodak651, what is left on Berry’s contract?

Berry's current contract is through the 25-26 season, I think, with it being inked in 03/2022. So if we don't hear any news of a new extension for him by next spring or so, it could mean that his days at UND are numbered.

I didn't want Brad Berry to be the associate head coach when they let Shaw go. I also didn't want him to be the head coach when Hak left. But he's Hak's buddy and he is in this position because of that.

Right now, this team most likely will have to do the one thing it has only done once in the NCHC to make the NCAAs. The "new" standard is we make the NCAAs not we make Frozen Fours, and that might work for the Omaha's, Miami's, Western Michigan's, etc.... Honestly you can't defend what Berry has done at UND when his predecessors missed 3 NCAAs combined and 8 Frozen Fours. Blais lost in the regional final in 1998, 1999, and 2004 and out in round 1 in 2003 (1998 and 1999 they had a bye). Hak lost in 2 regional finals. When you have everything that even Denver, Minnesota, Michigan, BC, and other 'blue blood" schools don't have, and you only make ONE Frozen Four then maybe it's time for a change to someone who can get the most out of their players. It's time for Berry to stop being their dad/bff and be their coach and lead this team. Time for Berry to start taking ownership of the product on the ice and say, "I didn't have the team prepared tonight" instead of the usual BS he says after games. Karl and Dillion should get out on the recruiting trail and lock up these high end CHL/USHL/AAA/MNHS players. And Berry needs to, for the love of God, stop going to the portal and getting players that wouldn't have been recruited to UND to begin with.

Brad Berry got rid of Shaw and hired Karl

Not sure if I can sit through another year of at the end of the day or #culture crap from BB.

Brett Larsen from SCSU.  If you've ever been to St. Cloud Minnesota and heard stories from those that work at that university you likely have as much respect as I do for what he's been able to accomplish.

He would be a fantastic hire.

It might be time to move on from BB. I don’t say that lightly, but I feel he’s had ample time to prove his worth, and frankly, from a national perspective, he hasn’t achieved much. While some might point to the conference regular season title as an accomplishment, it doesn’t align with UND’s primary focus: national championships. BB has fallen short in that regard, managing to win just one tournament game. That’s hard to overlook.

When Bubba had two left on his deal an extension had to be done because recruiting, etc.

Berry was in the same place at the start of this season.

Curious.

Advantages over a lot of teams….but definitely not all anymore.

Incentives are fine, but there should be objectives to achieve success at the NCAA Tournament level. 10% combined for regular season champions and 1st round conference host. That’s not chump change!

Oh please, not that mid-major bull$hit again.

UND is a blue blood in this sport and the program must be run like a blue blood. If Berry can't take us to national prominence, we must look elsewhere.

If a small private school like Denver (which I am not even sure has a campus) can be this successful, I think UND can do the same with a beautiful campus, a wide range of academic options and yes, the most beautiful arena in the world.

We are not going away. Period.

Whoa…settle down :). Just stating a fact. There are other blue blood programs as well.

Yeah, I realize that. I just don't think UND can afford to lose national prominence in this sport. It will drag down all our other programs.

They have a billion dollar endowment, they have a campus.

Neither do I. Someone simply mentioned we have more resources than most (if not all) other programs. My point was that I agreed with most…but there are a couple other schools with our resources. Other blue bloods. I’m not saying I’m not pissed with the current state of our hockey program.

If you ever walked around - their campus is gorgeous.  And most importantly it's in the middle of Denver.

Fair enough. I am just generally unhappy with the current state of UND athletics. Just bad results all over. Didn't mean to bite your head off.

And that's one hell of a selling point. Right in the middle of Denver

I’m with ya. The current status of the athletic department is not in good shape. I’m happy that our university looks out for its own but at the same time they need to be realistic if they want to be contenders.

I’m biased in this opinion but I am really bullish on Kris Mayotte. He has taken steps each and every year now at CC. He has pretty much flushed out the Haviland era in every way. I see him continuing to move the program forward this year as well. Watching them in every home game and most road games this year, they play with swagger, they play with snarl (as Starman likes to say), and they play with moxie. They’ve gotten bigger yet haven’t sacrificed the speed and skill necessary to compete.

I could see Mayotte doing some special things, bringing the program back to national relevance and then eventually moving on to a bigger more high profile program, giving Peter Mannino his shot at a head coaching gig as Mayotte’s replacement. Would UND ever consider going so far outside the box with a guy like Mayotte or Raboin as some have mentioned here? Would Mayotte even have any interest if such an opportunity arose?

I also question how attractive the UND job actually is in 2024.  Don't get me wrong, it's among the best, huge built in advantages.  But also maybe some unrealistic expectations of a natty every year.  So a guy like Larson or Mayotte may decide it's just better to be appreciated than deal with that.

Also, I have less knowledge of CC and Mayotte but Larson brings in a ton of portal guys and they usually perform excellently.  This year may be his best freshman class ever, but still not the blue chippaz people on this forum would expect.
