Popular Post .357
Conundrum for Berry: Say Strathmann and/or Komzak returns, he has a tough decision to make on whether to take Montgomery off D in favor of one of them. Montgomery may not have their physical attributes, but he has a lot of poise & makes smart decisions; traits you want in a d-man when you're playing the best team in the country.

Scorpio
Denver will obviously be a stern test. They are 10-0 but their opponents have a combined record of 7-28-4. Next weekend will be their first legitimate test to see how good they really are.

That's probably what the coaches think also, but Montgomery's experience & poise translate to fewer mental mistakes.
Oldguy
A road sweep is always a job well done. UND took too many penalties, but otherwise looked pretty good, especially for a team with so many injuries. However, will they come out of next weekend with a losing record? Most likely (unless we get everyone back, which won't happen), but we shall see. Montgomery is proving that you don’t need to be a big, bruising defender to be effective. Play smart, be responsible with the puck in your end, and help make plays in transition. I’m so proud of him and the success he’s having. Sadly, many kids like him would’ve already transferred by now in search of more playing time. He has paid his dues and stuck with it and is now being rewarded because of his sound play. 1
SiouxScore
Solid weekend of hockey and 2 very much needed wins. Don't think Duluth finishes higher than 7th this season.
SiouxForever
When is O Mac gonna get off the goose egg? Can’t have him go with no goals in the first half of the szn. Scoring has been spread out but this guy needs to get a few goals to get the monkey off his back. This is like his freshman year on repeat. Monty will for sure play over Komzak but yeah we’ll want Strathmann back in at D with Monty as extra skater maybe alternating D reps with Jubenvil

While I really like some passes Monty made to get rushes going he made some mistakes that would have ended in the back of our net multiple times if we were playing a stronger team. It was towards the end of Saturdays game, every time he was in the d zone and had some forecheck pressure he whiffed on the pass. Monty did more than we could have hoped for but we need a 6th dman back.
brianvf
It was kind of crazy that amount of players that whiffed on pucks yesterday for UND. Monty did like three times in one shift...luckily one of them ended up leading to Strinden's goal. Wiebe did it twice on one-timer attempts from the point. James did it a couple times, including once on a great 2x1 rush. 1

He knows his job's on the line, so he does whatever is necessary, from stealing top GF Central recruits to spiking water bottles. Some say it all started when he became close friends with gfhockey, who spikes everything, including his milk of magnesia.

On one of the many pks, Livanavage was trying to push a UMD forward away from in front of the net; the UMD guy wasn't budging & he eventually scored on TJ. A good group of us used to play in a pickup game against the GPL group each year during the Final Five in Mpls. Those were good times. 1

That pass from the winger to the center crashing the goal was the key. D man had to play that just right or the winger would put a backhand shot on goal.
