forksandspoons Posted September 16 Posted September 16 San Diego beat Cal Poly for what it’s worth. They’ll be fresh off a bye. Hopefully UND has a great week of practice and takes another step forward as a team. 2 Quote

All seriousness, I don't see this as any different than playing against Idaho St. You want to be a top 10 of maybe even top 5 team, you don't just win this game, you win by multiple scores. No disrespect to San Diego, this isn't about them as a team, it is about where we need to be as a team. "It's not worth winning if you can't win big!" -Legendary Hawks Coach, Jack Reilly 2 Quote

AJS Posted September 16 Posted September 16 San Diego has 3 defensive TD's this year (2 against Poly). This will be their first road game of the year. Preseason 5th in the Coaches poll, coming off a 4-7 record last year. This should not be close. #1 thing I'll be looking for is Romfo improving each week. Starting with cleaning up the handful of easy throws he misses each week. Keep building and stay healthy! 3 Quote

Long Live Smok'n Joe Protheroe!! SAN DIEGO – Cal Poly's defense returned a fumble for a touchdown and allowed just 13 points, but three interceptions by the Mustangs offense, including two pick-sixes, resulted in the Mustangs falling in their season opener to San Diego Saturday, 27-21. forksandspoons Posted September 17 Posted September 17 San Diego appears to have quite a few grad students and seniors leading the way. Definitely a team with experience. They held Cal Poly to 8 rushing yards on 18 attempts. UND is a young team and needs to be well prepared. It most likely won't be the ISU game again as sometimes things snowball on teams (38-0). QB - Grad student Top 3 RBs - Grad students WR1 - Senior WR2 - Junior WR3 - Senior Top 2 TEs - Junior and Senior OL - Junior, Junior, Grad, Junior, Senior Top 10 tacklers, in order -Senior, Grad, Senior, Junior, Grad, Senior, Grad, Soph, Senior, Senior 1 Quote

Let’s see what the leadership (coaches and players) comes up with … the level of intensity and focus we see on Saturday will be telling for the rest of the season. If the majority of the players think they can take this week off, and that won’t bode well for the rest of the season, namely the road games. Quote

Don't take them lightly. “Don’t take them lightly”” narrative is a bunch of sandbagging B.S. to be frank. I prefer the confident approach (which hasn’t been at UND for the past couple decades) which means you put them down early and step on them when they’re down. The “don’t take them lightly” by our coaching staff has led to the UND teams of the past decade playing down to their opponents level often (just look at the history of performances over the last 10 + seasons). Last week was somewhat encouraging, but need to see consistency with that. If UND can’t put together a complete game vs a non-scholly pioneer league school, then that should be rightfully concerning and an indictment on the preparation and execution … 1 1 Quote
Popular Post geaux_sioux Posted September 18 Popular Post Posted September 18 This is another great test for a young team. Are we disciplined enough to execute when the game isn’t an enticing matchup which makes for easy motivation? Good teams can play at a high level against an inferior opponent. The goal should be to bury them early and get guys valuable reps in the second half. Anything less is a failure. 8 Quote
MinnDak Posted September 18 Posted September 18 The defense having multiple take aways was huge last week and hopefully they keep it going. Game changing plays. Quote
Wilbur Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Poly with 8 rushing yards on 18 attempts against them. Thats not going to get it done. Pound it down their throats, use the play action to hit some bigger plays if they put more bodies in the box. I'm expecting the Law Firm of Seidl, Ziebarth, and Smith to have big time games Saturday.
