Maybe they have a RT that would like to make a return back to Grand Forks to play his senior year closer to home.

Not interested, moving ahead with the guys that chose to stay. He could have been a four-year starter ND legacy, now he's just a footnote in South Dakota.

If we don’t see anything by noon today, it’ll be way under.

Portal open another 30 days for SDAC players, I believe, because of coaching change.

Yes, but things would have to move much quicker. Probably a bit aggressive with noon, but I do think if we don’t see anything today. They’ll lose very, very few key players.

Washington State’s first day of classes is Jan. 6 with last day to add Jan. 12. We’ve seen this type of thing before, either happens quickly or “not at all”. By not at all, I don’t mean none, more so very few. Not enough to change next years trajectory.

I’m not sure everyone that leaves goes to WSU.   Some may get into the portal to see what other schools they can find.

Just like us, how long they take to name a replacement will be key.   You don’t want kids home for the holidays with other schools having the ability to reach out.

if I’m a returning player and I see both QBs gone, best WR gone for sure and lots of other unknowns, do I stick around? That roster will get lots of attention.

this would be great.  IMO Perfect Size Stadium and Nashville would be a great place to go for National Championship game.

30K is pretty big for an FCS game unless you got at least 1 and probably 2 "big" fanbases going.

Always has been. The difference is that the players are now wielding knives too!

FCS is in process of major flux with the last two major conferences of FCS the Valley and Big Sky under transition now being targeted by FBS for mining coaches out of top programs and targeting top talent for portal. Because of our geographics and population the top schools were not targeted to move up to FBS instead they are just coming in with money to allure away coaching talent and elite players to go into the portal. Majority of FCS had fallen back because of money issues for funding sports but these conferences had been able to maintain there quality of teams. The Bobcats coach and even Bison coach were said to be in contention for some these openings in FBS.  These coaches being involved in National championship games probably reason for them still being in place.

i believe FCS is probably not going to see number of high level talent we have seen in last 10 to 15 years. I think NCAA getting IVY league teams now being part of FCS playoffs have secured reason for maintaining FCS. UND has been given a break now to become relevant in the conference  and  becoming a factor in recruiting in the region. I just see that maintaining program year after year is probably not in cards when ever you have success it’s going to be poached and you have to start all over not way football was for prior 50 years.

I wonder if there’d be mutual interest. Giving a bit more thought, really hope the coaches are actively trying to make this happen. Anderson returning + Hagen would be a game changer.

One of the reasons he left was not football related so I don’t know if it’s something he’d be interested in

I also don’t know if he loved Olson’s approach. Not saying Olson is a bad OL coach but wasn’t Hagen’s style. If he does enter the portal I would bet Montana or Wazzu.

Yeaj but people are people and I wouldn't want to line up with someone who knifed me in the back. Going to an P4 school for an opportunity is one thing, going to a rival is another. It's indeed a cut throat business and I'd say enjoy Brookings unless you want to walk on. He had his chance at UND.

Normally I would agree with this. But after seeing Bubba sleeping in team meetings,  I really can't blame any player or coach for leaving to go to a program that had the focus and leadership to win a championship. It was 100 percent clear the previous staff didn't have that and it was on full display the entire second half of the season. I would be hard to give my all to a staff I didn't feel was capable.

Too much looking in the review mirror around here. Happy he played well for us. Once he walked out that door he is in the past and not a part of our future. Who’s next?

While everyone is distracted by shiny bunnies in the portal, what else might still be out there?

They’ll have to enter first, which is becoming increasingly doubtful.

Although some feelings were hurt Danny leaving was a major event.  It showed he didn't believe in his future job security at UND.  Then, a few players and O-line coach showed the same sentiment.  Next, we had the Jake the Snake incident, followed by questionable QB management, SleepGate, then continually disappointing road results.  One could argue in putting himself first Danny also put UND first.  We are now in a better position with Schmidty(I believe) and Danny is part of a movement that is gutting the Jacks.  All while tripling his salary and making him a future HC option at FCS and/or FBS.  What a wild ride!!

Danny smashed the paradigm and everyone benefited. Can only do the emperor has no clothes routine for so long.

I thought he was going to get ready for pro football?

If he is guaranteed to get a million or more in NIL I'd probably do that if I was him. Will he actually make an NFL roster when it comes down to it?

He did well at UND. I read that he wanted an Ag program but I would bet he entered the portal looking for a Kielty type opportunity and this was what was he got. I think many of us thought we would struggle this year and with the extension, there didn’t seem like we were headed in the right direction.
I would be surprised if he would consider returning. He would likely have FBS opportunities.
However, if we are going to start paying coaches $750,000 to move on when teams fail, I will take a proven starter every time.  I would rather welcome a guy back who wants to win than fall on my sword over his move to try to better his opportunities. I don’t think he will return though.
