Road on the plane today from San Diego and chatted with a former player (and his family) who transferred to FBS school. Main issue was UND didn’t utilize TE’s in passing game.  Hopefully Schmidt and Freuchte and smart enough to know how important that is.

Sounds like maybe a player that transferred to Jimmy Rogers new stomping grounds?

Well Fruechte was the OC last year and it didn't change from whhat it was before. We'll see if Eric suggests to get them involved more.

He had 23 catches in three years, including ONE this year. What a move.

Never good to drive away a talented kid. Especially one whose father and mother were standout athletes at UND and I believe his sister is currently playing volleyball here.

He did well at UND. I read that he wanted an Ag program but I would bet he entered the portal looking for a Kielty type opportunity and this was what was he got. I think many of us thought we would struggle this year and with the extension, there didn’t seem like we were headed in the right direction.
I would be surprised if he would consider returning. He would likely have FBS opportunities.
However, if we are going to start paying coaches $750,000 to move on when teams fail, I will take a proven starter every time.  I would rather welcome a guy back who wants to win than fall on my sword over his move to try to better his opportunities. I don’t think he will return though.

I agree we should definitely be open to welcoming back any good player from ND, in this case specifically Fordville, ND, but there’s definitely many other ways to use the roster spot if need be.

It may in fact be water under the bridge at this point, and if so, there’s always a lesson; such as don’t extend failing coaches with the stamina for retirement, not championships.

Onward.

Winning and development will trump all. Can’t go out of your way to emphasize a certain position group if it jeopardizes the overall goals of the team and program. And many are going to have to come to grips that you may lose student-athletes even if you “utilize their position group” - it’s the current world of college football. With all that said, we should want to see all position groups succeed more than they have been, and I’m hopeful we will see that moving forward. Let’s start by awaiting the official announcement of the new TE coach ……

How did UND drive him away?

Exactly, I don't remember NDSU losing a ton of wide receivers when they were predominantly a running team in the past.  Winning cures a lot of things.

Quincy had 19 receptions and 3 touchdowns the last two seasons.

Riviere had 20 receptions and 1 touchdown in his two seasons 2022-23.

But carry on.......

Zavalney was also pretty involved in 2021 and 2022.
