Oxbow6
There's a lot of guys that carved out pretty good college careers at UND and got an education years back that probably would have been jettisoned for a bright shinier toy with the portal as it is now.

If the coaching staff is offended, then they need to get into a different line of work. My position is it isn't a lack of talent, it's from the neck up. Berry and his staff need to figure out why this team loses its edge after clinching the Penrose. And if that makes me "entitled", then so be it. Ok, I get it, never said any coaches would be offended but alums. Class of ‘77 here & proud of it as are my classmates, friends & family. Got no beef with you personally, all good.

Asking for a definition of what a great college hockey coach is was an innocent enough question, or so I thought, & I was genuinely curious in reading people's opinions. It did, indeed, seem to trigger some folks. They refuse to answer because they don't want to "go in circles" only to go in circles with you about why they don't need to answer. If you can't answer the question, why such urgency to respond and go in the circles you wanted to avoid in the first place? Repeatedly. Lol. Yes, funny how their minds' work.

After feeling not appreciated leave for a lesser job(Calipari going to Arkansas, Berry goes to Bemidji to coach their women's program? ) Scanlan stepping down as head coach of Bemidji State Women’s Hockey program - Bemidji State University (bsubeavers.com) Do you have inside knowledge? If one can keep a lighthearted approach, there is comedic gold to be found in some of these replies. Like most here, am focused on the Blake situation but got sidetracked into this dead-end.

stoneySIOUX
What do you think? Do we get another portal forward with Blake signing today?
Goon
I think he was lowballed on his contract. Quote Blake's contract is worth $775,000 (prorated) in 2023-24 and $832,500 at the NHL level in 2024-26. If he's in the American Hockey League, his salary will be $80,000 per season. His signing bonus totals $277,500.

That doesn't mean it's going to work out like he thinks. He is now just a piece of meat to be used however the Hurricanes want. I would have held their feet to the fire and demanded a rookie maximum contract. He had all the leverage and he gave it away. He needs an agent that knows how to negotiate contracts. I hope he is successful, but I am a skeptic at this point. He is not Jonathan Toews.

Walsh Hall
16 minutes ago, Goon said: I think he was lowballed on his contract. Why do you say that was a lowball contract? The signing bonus can only be 10% of the total contract which indicates this is essentially the max. I believe all ELCs are two-way deals. They do appear to have only 3 Freshman that are truly ready to go next year. Love Klee's upside and I think he'll have a huge year in the USHL, but I would send him back. Same with Littler. His development this year probably wasn't what anyone expected. My ideal F roster, given where we are today. SR. (5) Berg, Kunz, Jamernik, Schmaltz, Wilkie JR. (4) James, McLaughlin, Montgomery, Strinden SO. (1) Perron FR. (3) Boisvert, Croal, Swanson Additions.
