This can all be blamed on our incompetent Athletic Director.  He has almost destroyed every sport since he has been here.   He had no reason at all hiring Mal after she won 2 games her first season.  She completely destroyed the culture of womens basketball at the University so much that 8 of her own players just went into the portal. Granted most of them probably should not be playing, but there were a few that we could built off of.  The next to go should be CHAVES!!

Agreed. With all of this going on most Presidents would have removed the AD by now.

I heard they were heart broke when he left Mayville. Players liked him. I don't care if the whole team leaves including Schiller, I'm actually more upset about Ibrahim. I like Schiller, but there are way more guards out there than bigs. Is he tough on the girls? Does he hold the players accountable? Let's be honest about half the team had D1 talent

I do wish Pemberton, Schiller, Ibrahim and Ferrara Horn would stay. With Demers and Aumer (she needs to take care of the ball better) I think they would make a decent core to build around.

It’s not like they were hiring him based on what a 5’5” guard wants.  That kind of thinking is what got us here in first place

Way to twist it.  When your best player does not want to stay and play for a guy that she has played for for a whole season.  That is concerning.

Also, please tell me what players were behind hiring the previous coaches "to get us in this place"

This seems like a classic what came first scenario.

Girls leaving so coach steps down? or coach steps down so girls leaving? I am all for seeing what Hutter brings to the table.  Might be a while though if the cupboards are empty.

The team advocated hard for Mal after the two win interim season. They must’ve listened because here we are

The players announcing their intentions to leave is what caused Mallory to resign, from what I've heard.

This is also what I've heard from multiple places.

I feel a little better about this scenario! Hopefully they will listen to what Hutter has to say! Perhaps why Chaves moved so quickly!! (one can hope anyways)

I know everyone thinks Schiller is top talent being lost in this group but if I was to rate who will get best opportunities it will be Pemberton at 6’1”, Ibrahim at 6’3” and developing fast, and Horne at 6’2” who does a lot of good things on floor doesn’t show up in box score. Schiller had good first year but at 5’ 6” but not exceptionally quick or has vertical jumping ability to play for power schools is probably limited.  These players were leaving because of Mallory still here and I don’t know relationship they had with Hutter but if they move on to other programs they are going to be in for big shock performance will be demanded and if you don’t perform you will see bench time and support promised will dry up quickly. These top colleges it professional basketball, the coaches there are on same kind of leash win or your gone shortly that is why get big money there is very little loyalty. The small midmajor there is still some what college basketball was but it dying quickly money is corrupting the game of original premise of what college sports was about and it also has effected below this in high school levels and now AAu sports and kids having agents even that low, how  it has changed. All success it has may just lead to downfall in the future when people grow tired of just elite few colleges dominating the sport but I am old and maybe this what young will like.  I look sport is dying from top down in interest and if that is what I believe happens all the big time money will start drying up.

"But Chaves serves on a bunch of important committees! And he brought us the almighty Alston Awards! And it's all about GPA and community service hours! That's all you can ask!" (extreme sarcasm) :silly::angry:

I didn't think it could get any worse than Buning. But Chaves has set the standard for mediocrity and underachievement. Chaves must go.

To help put this discussion to rest on when the 8 players decided to leave, here is a tweet from Nevaeh Horne's dad saying it was before Mal resigned.

Before or After it doesn't matter.  Unless the 8 are puling there names out they don't want to play for the new coach.

Don't you think Hutton will be having meetings with each of these players this week? It's not difficult to change your mind about the portal.

If he wants them to stay he will.  I guess it is wait and see.

I sure it matters if it was before or after.   One gives you a chance at retaining a few….one doesn’t.

SDSU....no tranfers last season. Coach there 25 years. Starting 5 over 500 combined starts in program.

UND.....sh!t show.

SDSU doesn't take transfers. Coach commits to his recruits and hopes they reciprocate. It's worked very well for him, obviously.

I see Nevaeh Horne dad posted this all happened before Mallory resigned. I sure hope she reconsiders and recommits to the team. she has been steady player for us things she does on floor most people don’t see and value her play but believe me I  have seen it and the assistant coaches could tell you this also. Her shooting or shot is unusual but was getting better as season went along. I think majority of players in the portal just wanted better coaching and chance to win but problem now once they opened door it always hard to come back and if somebody else is giving them new possibilities when your young it becomes probability.  These girls or I should say women are quality people have represented themselves and university well with their time here.

Sicatoka I believe you about NIL it’s factor now. My question is I know you have more knowledge about the system and NIL but right now it seems to me men’s basketball players are at much higher level with money and numbers for NIL. Women’s basketball so far is more confined to top players receiving big money and lesser extent money being offered to above average player. I would appreciate for you put examples of money being offered now for type of player like Schiller. Would it far exceed what she would receive in Allston payments and amount she received by local Nil doing some local promotions here for businesses. This may surprise me but I think it is more about commitment from school to put together winning program right now for women’s basketball.
