2024-2025 season

Even if next few seasons are rebuilding from the ground up we would have been looking at the same records if they would have stayed status quo - at least there is path forward. I wonder about the future of most mid major basketball teams for support. If you watch the road games their gyms are empty, when the older generation fans are gone there is no one to replace them. 

Think I read that every player on SDSUs women's team is from within 500 miles of Brookings - just sayin.

Honestly, at times I think we would be better off being D2 again in all sports besides hockey and football. Not sure if that’s possible, the football part.

And they pretty much never lose players early. Women's basketball seems to be the last relatively high-profile sport where it's still possible for a low or mid-major to be relevant.

Was thinking the same thing last night.  I think UND's fan base want to compete for a National Championship. Only 2 sports that is possible now is in FB and Hockey.

The Fan base for both B-Ball Teams in the D2 Era was incredible.

Do we think there’s any chance she returns? Heard she was entering but thought maybe she would reconsider once Hutter was named HC. No idea on their relationship but that was my wishful thinking.

SDSU....no tranfers last season. Coach there 25 years. Starting 5 over 500 combined starts in program.

Much like SDSU and St Thomas men's BB, find talented regional kids who are less apt to leave

We did get 3 good years of Eaglestaff, probably could have left after last year but made himself a lot of money

I really don’t believe Josie will be making a bunch of money elsewhere. She should learn from Eaglestaff and develop here and transfer after year 2 or 3.

Nope, UND thinks its better to go deep into Canada and Michigan to find girls that aren't very good at basketball.

Problem was the guy in charge of Recruiting for a long time was from Michigan and he loved to recruit there.

Recruiting local is great but it doesn't guarantee they stick around.  Look at the best players on both Basketball teams this year.  Both ND kids and both are in the portal.

Also look at the 2019 Freshman class. 6 Girls from ND and MN.  Only 2 of them finished their careers at UND.

It’s too bad because I think with Hutter at the helm, the core group of players that could return could produce a very good team next season.

New Coach hired yesterday and she announced last night she was entering portal.  If she is not willing to play for the new guy, did we hire the right person?

So based on the Herald article that was just posted, only Demers and Aumer aren't in the portal, at least as of yet, amongst those who actually saw much playing time this past season.

Or she had made up her mind post season and had to wait till the portal opened to make her move. I suspect it had nothing to do with Hutter. The die was cast before he was named new coach

This can all be blamed on our incompetent Athletic Director.  He has almost destroyed every sport since he has been here.   He had no reason at all hiring Mal after she won 2 games her first season.  She completely destroyed the culture of womens basketball at the University so much that 8 of her own players just went into the portal. Granted most of them probably should not be playing, but there were a few that we could built off of.  The next to go should be CHAVES!!

I respect Hutter's record at Mayville. But my question is, why not name him as interim coach rather than just giving him the job? What was the rush? Obviously you don't normally promote an assistant when the program is underperforming. If the players you actually wanted to keep were on board with it, maybe it's a bit more understandable. But that doesn't appear to be the case, and it appears we're losing them anyway, so what exactly was the thought process here?

It’s not like they were hiring him based on what a 5’5” guard wants.  That kind of thinking is what got us here in first place
