Maybe because they don't view investing with Bubba to be worth their money...(ducks to avoid being hit with a tomato or a shoe)... That's sarcasm btw... Donors get to do what they want to do with their money. It's an awesome gift...we should all be extremely grateful! 2 Quote
Popular Post The Sicatoka Posted June 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted June 6, 2024 Dan threw a grenade hoping to incite a "versus" reaction. Why oblige him? Instead ... Be happy for $4,000,000.00 to UND Athletics scholarships plus another $1,000,000.00 for other areas. If I was a bomb-thrower I'd mention $5M is the same amount as an NDSU bailout from the State last summer ... luv-ya Dan ... 1 8 Quote

Popular Post 90siouxfan Posted June 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted June 6, 2024 Not sure whether Dan is more cringe than the local fans that spit thier vile on a donations. Sometimes being a part of this community is embarrassing. Curious if you pathetic wankers would act so rude if you were not anonymous. My apologies to the Mikkelsen family if they are made aware of some of these comments. I appreciate your gift to the University and wish you well. 1 19 1 Quote

Everything helps and those who give are greatly appreciated! Might be a dumb question on my part, but interested how this type of thing works with the yearly athletic budget. Using this as an example, is the $ equivalent of 63 Football scholarships added to the budget each year and if you have 2 as part of the endowment, you have 40K to spend elsewhere? Easier put, the athletic budget won't be 40K less, because the $ is already spoken for, correct? Quote

I think scholarships are a line item expense that are treated the same as any other expense. Like you, I guess, I would be curious to know what the budgeting process for UND athletics looks like - is there a set formula, or does funding from the university fluctuate based on need and/or the opinion of the president (and by how much)? There's probably a written policy somewhere. In either case, given that a large portion of the athletics budget is paid for through general funds from the university, the larger the endowments for athletics are, the more flexibility the school has to do things like funding for Alston awards, for example. The picture below from the 22-23 champions club membership guide provides some basic info about this topic. Quote

This is accurate from my understanding. While it is what I consider a "soft" cost, it there is some sort of internal transaction between athletics and the University for that is accounted for. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Using @UNDBIZ 4% from above, $6M in scholarship costs requires a $150M endowment. Quote

Oh, I shall. No follow the leader from me. Independent thought will direct it towards football and basketball. Anyways, now that that inevitable reaction has somewhat subsided… As for Mikkelsens, happy they donated. I don’t know them; my comment was not directed towards them personally. The stupidity is more of a region-wide issue, I’d say. 3 Quote
sioux24/7 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Kelly mentioned in his post today that Max Gunderson is done, bummer. I know there was a bit of smoke earlier around Adam Zavalney returning. Any truth to that? Quote
