Multiple lineman on both sides of the ball recruited by other big schools including the Iowa’s. Some have not found the field either. Kilty looks like a man possessed at KState. Ventrelli was best in FCS. Bryant starts at San Diego. On and on and on. LOL

It still seems like are too small on D and probably not fast enough to be national contenders. Looked like we tried to spy the Youngstown qb with a LB and he just ran away from us anyway.

It’s obvious the D is too small. We refuse to play any 300 lb D or O lineman. If you tall and are skinny and look like an outside linebacker you play interior D line here. Orlando and Beach should never come off the field except to rest. Gotta rush the ball with at least 4 or the result is we make every quick QB look like Lamar Jackson. Our 280 to 320 lb recruits never see the field. Back to offense Bo Belquist isn’t too bad either and we have 4 backs that could run for any team including FBS. MinnDak
And if you start the game off with a pick 6 at this point in the season you head to the bench and out comes #11 for the rest of the year and get some competition back on this team.

Not sure that argument holds water. On the other hand, Beach is the only DL on the roster that is 300lbs or more. Not refusing 300lb DL isn't the problem, however not having any is a different story and one I'd agree with. Hoping the change in direction on the S&C side helps with that issue because it does definitely feel like UND's DE's are undersized.
nodak651
Our DC got hired because the last one resigned right before last season right? Perhaps they should have made the DC an interim and then hired a DC with a good resume after last season.

Also the old O line coach was obsessed with being under sized/weight. A little more historical I should say. And the roster isn’t always accurate. They slimmed down the first year he was here because they felt the talent wasn't were it needed to be so they thought they could play a little quicker to offset that. It failed and lasted one season before they worked on bulking them back up. Agree on the D side. DE's need to be bigger. They also were very much in on some guys that would fit the NT position but ended up losing out on them.
Sioux94
Boise St. is on TV tonight. Last year we held this guy to like 65 yard or something. This is what he had at half tonight. We hold Iowa State to 21 points. It is perplexing how we can shut a guy like Jeanty down, but then give up 200-300 yards on the ground to FCS teams and look so damn bad on defense.
Wilbur
Something that bugs me a bit is hearing that Simon is now on scholarship. Editor's Note* Love the effort he plays with, love he's a small town kid playing D1, love he worked his way to starting QB as a walk on, love he earned a scholarship and he's getting his education paid for. The little devil on my shoulder says, "Great kid! Good for him! Do you like that these are the skill sets we are handing out our limited D1 scholarships to? He can't throw it down field against a legit defense?" Maybe time to give Jerry some time next week?

It is just insane Jerry hasn't seen the field getting meaningful reps in certain situations that have been presented to date. That is strictly ignorance and arrogance on the part of the HC and OC.

Second half first play don’t you start plugging in some players that can at least try to maybe a difference. Line is getting rolled on both sides of the ball again. O-line couldn’t stop a 3-4 man rush. We have one good run Smith breaks 1-2 tackles and beats everyone to the end zone again to make O line look good for the week. Do we not have any D line man on the team? QB is swamped every play and can’t throw. Deng Deng on the team? Tai? Bo has 2.5 games left so let’s save him for playoffs. SDSU obviously scouted and exploited every weakness. SDSU corner end zone passes were a work of art. I wonder if we have a QB that could do that? No sense trying that play. How do all the coaches go along with it 3 weeks in a row and just say “yep, this is the best anyone can do.”
UND Football Fan
I am on board when a game is out of hand put back up QB in. Most teams do this. I also wish the let them play during meaningful moments for a series or packages. SDSU (back up was hurt this week) has done this and so has NDSU. I did look like we played our beefier interior line men but we do not have two deep with the size and it showed a lot after 1st quarter. Unlike last few games against SDSU we did not look physically smaller, however lack of depth did hurt. What I saw in the first half (lots bad) but one that strips out before D-Lune got gassed was poor tackling, along with no cavalry to help clean up. We go from battling SDSU at their place last game of the year in 2021 to a defense we have now. (2021 team lost every game except one, I believe by one score) Three years staff could have brought in similar to better talent (or coached them better) from the 2021 team and we continue to regress on Defense. The problem with this team and teams especially since 2021 is mainly defensive either coaching or recruiting. If Bubba stays, most of the defensive staff would have to be replaced. If not, the program could possibly regress more.
wheelsup
I do not understand the idea of firing the DC and not the HC.. the DC is running bubbas defensive system.. the last DC running the system also stunk.. and Schmidt certainly struggled as well depending on the year.. they brought in dosch to help and the defense still stinks.. replacing the DC and not blaming the HC/system/etc is like tying your shoe on an amputated leg to stop from tripping. So if they make Schwenzfeier the scapegoat, what do they even do? Would probably have to promote Dosch because who from the outside would want this job? To be clear, it does seem like Schwenzfeier never should have gotten the job and is overmatched. But there is obviously a bigger problem that you alluded to (the fact that Bubba is still the HC)

Dosch is a Lennon/Bubba disciple. This defense is what it is with this group; no outside influence and broken. The entire defensive staff needs to be replaced, which technically includes the head coach since it’s his defense. Bottom line is we are at the end of a 25-year run of the Lennon/Bubba 3-4 defense. There were some highlights during the era, especially the early 2000s, but the last several seasons have been rough. All good things eventually must come to an end. Change is inevitable. I’m all for an open search for someone with no ties - UND football is in need of it: change and outside influence, but most importantly a winning culture with accountability, discipline, and expectations of a high standard. 1
