brianvf
Quote There was no surprise in today's weekly team shootout. Jackson Blake again emerged as a winner, outlasting Cameron Berg. Blake has now won three of the 11 shootouts this season. The only other multi-time winner is Owen McLaughlin (two). If UND gets into a shootout in the second half, it seems likely that Blake and McLaughlin will be two of the shooters. Both have five team shootout wins over the last two seasons. "I think it's super exciting," he said. "I've had this one circled on the calendar for a while. It should be super cool to play in front of family and friends, and to play at The Ralph." Emery, who grew up in British Columbia but has family roots in Compton, Calif., also is looking forward to the game. "It's pretty cool," Emery said. "Not too many people get to experience something like this — playing against the school you know you're going to. It's pretty special. It's going to be a great time." Quote Fohr said Emery reminds him of K'Andre Miller, who is now with the New York Rangers. Fohr coached Miller for two years. "They have a lot of similar assets," Fohr said. "E.J. is big, tall and long. He's an elite skater. I've got some guys up front that can absolutely fly on this team and he can skate with any one of them. It's a huge asset for him. It gets himself out of a lot of trouble. It allows him to be really aggressive and take away time and space from people because he can recover so well. It's an asset that will be with him forever." Fohr said Laurila's trajectory has been different because he made the big jump from bantam hockey. "The pace still gets him every once in a while," Fohr said. "But he's a super smart kid, sees the ice well, defends well, plays hard and physical. I really like his game and there's a big upside to him in the future." 108498
We lost our last three games before Christmas break in OT. We may not win by 6, but I don't see why we don't win by 2 or 3.

farce poobah
Statistic of the day: Through 20 games, UND defenders have taken 34 PIM, or just 1.7 PIM/Game. That's as low as I can remember. UND forwards: 106 PIM, or 5.3 PIM/game. Yes, the penalty leaders include a couple of our top skill guys.

Sweethockey
18 minutes ago, Goon said: UND is ranked 61st in PIM per game (7.1). Owen has 20 points and ZERO penalty minutes. That is amazing! Usually the opposing team seems to try a little harder to suck in your high scorers into a penalty.

Not that that's a bad thing. Conclusion: excellent team speed and generally sound play in our own zone lead to fewer penalties.

We are also not as much of a hitting team as we have been in the past, which leads to less infractions. How many five minute majors have we had this year, compared to how many did Tyler Kleven have alone!

He wasn't cracking the lineup and if he didn't see a way in, so be it. Sounds like UND wanted to make it clear that he wasn't cut and Emerson did it himself. Blows my mind that players have advisors telling kids to do things like this. I don't understand it. But again, you do you, boo. Wish you the best.
