UND @ Pios - Chip and a chair

I've said it a few times over the past two weeks ... a chip and a chair, and the boys gave us hope against Miami. Will it continue?

Confident goaltending must continue. Must get better on 5-on-5. Avoid a five minute major at all cost - seems like we ALWAYS get one out there.

Get a split and I'm very pumped. If we find a way to sweep, we've got a legit chance again.

Agreed on all this.
Especially the major...DU will get the lions share of the PP chances in Denver, for sure.  In at least one game, the DU PP chances will at least double the number of PP chances that UND gets.

Just a few fun ones that I found looking back thru the archives:

2021 - UND 3 PP / DU 7 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/2021/boxes/mdenndk1.j18
2019 - UND 3 PP / DU 6 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1920/boxes/mdenndk1.n16
2019 - UND 1 PP / DU 3 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1819/boxes/mdenndk1.f02
2014 - UND 3 PP / DU 6 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1415/boxes/mdenndk1.d12
2012 - UND 3 PP / DU 7 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1112/boxes/mdenndk1.f25
2007 - UND 2 PP / DU 5 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/0708/boxes/mdenndk1.n30

And...my personal favorite:

2017 - UND 1 PP / DU 8 PP - http://www.collegehockeystats.net/1718/boxes/mdenndk1.n18

I don't remember the year but I recall a game where UND played virtually the entire second periond on the PK and DU had like 10 or 11 PPs for the game.

DU MAY have improved their strength and training regiment.  They tend to fall over very easily when near an opponent.  Maybe UND could be closer on PP.

I thought that 2017 game our only PP was with a minute left but I must be remembering a different game. That 2017 game also had a lame goaltender interference call take a goal away. Collin Adams tapped the goalie pad with his stick on a pass across the crease which was goalie interference apparently.

LetsGoDU did an AI interview on the DU-UND series. Interesting to think about this technology once it gets refined. It has a long way to go but I can see it being a major source for betting data in the future. No real stats yet.

About as informative as gfhockey; just better spelling/grammar.

Totally forgot about that. That was SO BAD. If I recall, the puck was already behind the tendy before the tap, too.

I thought the idea was really fun, but he should have aborted mission when it wasn't giving good answers. There's not a lot of websites about UND/DU hockey history, so asking an AI bot this kinds of questions is dumb.

The site is no longer amusing. Basically it's just boring, overplayed tropes. Some accurate, but overplayed, nonetheless :)

He should of aborted when he read it over and found that nothing that he came up with was funny....

Said it before the Miami series, hoping this team does enough to make the next series interesting. Prolong the importance of the regular season another weekend. Miami was a must sweep weekend and they did that. Clearly, this is a must split weekend. @ Denver is as tough a trip as there is, so UND will have to bring their A game both nights. Excited for Friday. There's a real opportunity to spark some excitement for the homestretch if they can win Friday.

Just a question that I think needs to be answered.  I watched the end of the Denver-CC game last Saturday, and at the end of the game (19:41 of the 3rd) Denvers Captain - Justin Lee - got a 5:00 major and a game misconduct for face masking.  The timing of the penalty usually means that the player would have to sit out the next game.  It has happened a couple of times before to North Dakota players, and I see nothing about it on the NCHC web site that he is unavailable for Fridays game against UND due to this penalty.  Not sure if this is the typical "Denver RUle" on penalties, or what the real explanation is for this call on the ice.

Doesn't look like he's going to be sitting out unless he has three game misconducts.

NCHC has made the call in many games prior to this that a major - game misconduct happening late in the third period, meant you sit out the next game.  That happened to a couple of North Dakota players the last couple of years, and I believe a couple of players from other teams (not Denver of course).  The players that I reference did not have a third game misconduct to sit out that next game, only the timing of the penalty.

I agree that he should sit out the next game. Being it's Denver, he probably won't. I also believe that Magnus Chrona should be sitting out for the next game based on his antics at the end of the game.
