ND will fall in line, just takes us a little longer.    Could be a long summer.

25 days after the first reported case, we have 28 counties with 0 confirmed cases.  18 counties with a combined 29 cases.  Unless the current trend changes, people outside of the 4 most densely populated areas of the state are not going to see the value of even stricter guidelines.

Stats from link in previous post.

  Date                New Deaths in USA

March 30             558
March 31             912
April 1                 1049
April 2                   969

Today, Friday     1321              This is opening more eyes?

Last week there were 1000 deaths total. Now we are at over 1000 deaths daily. The covid death rate in the USA has climbed to being 27 times deadlier than the flu. Trump's team predicts a death toll of 100k-240k with full mitigation and a peak daily death rate of 2,200 people a day on April 15th. If we reach this number before April 15th, it will be very telling where our country is heading. The danger here is asymptomatic transmission and resulting exponential growth of an airborne virus leading to a collapse of the healthcare system, leading to even more unnecessary deaths. ND will likely be the last state to be impacted, giving us the most time to be prepared and well positioned to attack this if we take it seriously. Currently, 16% of positive tested North Dakotans are being hospitalized. Anyone could see how damaging this could be to our healthcare systems and community if not kept under the slightest control.

Unfortunately, the world has proven that eyes wont be opened by statistics alone. The comparison to the flu in the USA was ruined by misleading information spread by all parties and sensationalized by the media. For most that are not convinced, it will take them being impacted directly by losing their loved ones. By then, it will be too late. If they are lucky and do not get directly impacted by loss of life, then they will likely use it as a reason to protest limitations in place.

I do not think anyone is disputing that smaller, less traveled to rural cities would be disproportionately impacted by stricter guidelines and limitations in place. However, just one doctor dying in one of these rural counties would also have an equally large, disproportional impact on their community compared to densely populated areas of the state. The value of human life and accumulation of years of training, knowledge, and specialized skill-sets is often forgotten. I would not advocate for complete quarantine, just for better guidelines from our government so everyone can get on the same page on how to approach these pandemics.

I hope you are right my friend. Next few weeks will be pretty telling for ND.
The bigger picture across the country is gaining traction.

I wasn't attempting to predict anything regarding covid numbers- just pointing out what's happened thus far.   The snails pace at which it is moving into the rural areas is great.   But stricter statewide mandates may fall on deaf ears.

if we wait to "reopen" the country and supply chains for oxygen machines, heart medication, liver medication, drugs in general go bad and 2 million people die will we look back at the shelter in place as a dumb move?

Well close to 500000 died in the last two months in this country just because......

Wow.  Should we completely go into a full lockdown as of today.... tomorrow?  Shutdown the economy and go Socialist shortly after?

I predict that we will look back on this and learn a hard lesson. Because what we are doing now will probably never be able to be done again in our lifetime. Its unsustainable.

What if we get another virus in three years?

I’d hope we learn lessons from this pandemic, insofar that ‘shutting down’ won't be necessary in the future.

With the world population exploding and regional problems easily evolving into global problems, challenges like Covid will be more common.  Systematic changes are needed on a global level.  Investment in science, healthcare and preparedness will be imperative.

The science community has been screaming about this exact scenario since forever.  Yet, for numerous reasons, it’s fallen on deaf ears in all parts of the world.

And here we are, caught with our pants down and the economy suffers because of it.

Please avoid bringing up politics, I'd like this thread not to get locked. I get it, socialism triggers you. Please try to contribute more to moving the conversation forward, offer constructive criticism, post reliable sources, offer support for your stances instead of just projecting and going to extremes. You do not convince anyone to agree with you this way. I want to learn from you and understand. I want to know what hard lessons you think will be learned? Who will learn them? Why do you think what we are doing now wont be done again? How is it unsustainable?

Here is a pandemic action plan to provide plenty of constructive criticism for:
If this was biological warfare, our response would be swift and intense. If we get another virus in three years I want a similar response. I hope we the people ensure the government has an action plan in place to respond. The government should have criteria set up, possibly with the flu as a baseline (in terms of transmission rate, death rate, and hospitalization rate), for how and exactly when individual cities and states should respond. Medical professionals should be the primary source of developing information and the required response. Elected officials should defer to them. Medical units should be prepared to be mobilized to isolate the virus, perhaps similar to the national guard. Encourage testing, give support to those who test positive, making it possible for them to stay home so we don't have to. Government aid should be known to be distributed at certain stages. Good news is they now have a baseline for how many people would be put out of work if something similar comes around. Base the aid package off of that and be ready to be preemptive about it. This way the government should be able to prioritize life and the economy at the same time. Ultimately, I would like the USA's response to be the gold standard of the modern world, not the epicenter or joke of it.

I agree. The swine flu pandemic of 10 years ago should’ve been the wake up call we needed that a nastier virus could potentially kill even more people.  But sadly nothing significant was done.

More countries that were prepared had learned from MERS in 2003.

Earlier have said prophecies have said the corona virus will disappear without a trace.

A rumor is now that the implementation of 5G is causing people to get sick from radiowave sickness, which causes your body to emit their related toxins from the nose and mouth.  The corona virus just happens to be related by it's spread.

Wuhan was one of the first Chinese cities to have 5G.  Italy and Spain are two countries that have implemented 5G too.  5G is ten times more powerful than 4G.  Other epidemics have happened when a new radiowave was introduced with satellite services, like the Hong Kong flu

Elderly people are more susceptible because their bodies can't take much more radiowave toxicity.

This rumor has been stated by Vodaphone's former President and most countries want to hide it and proceed with 5G.

Radiowave sickness is poorly studied and barely understood.

Am aware of sick people that have to limit their radiowave exposure - like living in a shell of metal that forms a chicken coop.

Some new environmental change could be effecting our world and 5G is just starting.

UK is trying to fight these rumors.  https://fullfact.org/online/coronavirus-5G/

South Korea had fully implemented 5G in it's country so they could have done something to stop it (lowering the power).

Preparation is two-fold, 1. national, 2. global collective.  Without both, pandemics are accidents waiting to happen.

As we're witnessing, pandemics affect the global economy..big time.   So we better learn from this hot mess.   It should be evident this current administration is pathetically out of its league, and previous administrations never gave two craps to implement a viable comprehensive plan of action.  Nor did anybody care to exert influence on the international community to get its act together.  That said, every other nation is guilty of the same, sans a few.  Politicization of the issues, institutional incompetency, greed, neglect and stupidity run amok.  Meanwhile science is crying.

Until the globe gets its fecal matter in order, finding creative ways to save lives will be a necessity.  I never cared for the Pats, but what a wonderful example:

New England Patriots team plane with 1.2 million N95 masks arrives from China to help ease shortages

Not only are the New England Patriots helping but so is Minnesota based company, My Pillow, by switching its factory to make medical masks instead.

Just shut up already. 5G has NOTHING to do with the virus and there is NO evidence of its supposed negative health effects. Please stop spreading pseudoscience and conspiracy theories. Maybe its time to lay off on the Alex Jones and David Icke.

It’s a win-win for My Pillow.  Is manufacturing pillows an essential business?  Probably not.  Switching production allows My Pillow to stay in business and keep workers employed during Minnesota's shut down.  Plus their product goes to the medical workers.  Good deal.

That said, with states and the feds in a crazy bidding war for supplies, the My Pillow Guy is likely earning some serious $$$ from the price gouging occurring for tax dollars.  Just another example of institutionalized and inefficient BS.   Flushing tax money down the toilet while millions of Americans are losing their jobs and retirement savings is what we do best.  I mean the reason Massachusetts needed to buy from China (via facilitation from the Patriot's owner) was because they couldn't compete on the open US market.

So 74000 deaths were projected in MN. On 11:59 pm on 3/27 a shelter in place order went into effect. The projected death total is now somewhere around 1000 +/- by early August. So for the multiple "experts" here is that roughly 73000 projected decrease in deaths strictly due to mitigation thru the 4/30 timeframe? If so it would seem more than reasonable to expect certain states of this country......MN and the Dakotas, WI.... possibly most states could get back to some normalcy in early May? Or we could surmise that the models were way off to begin with. I'm not saying mitigation isn't helping......it is just hard to imagine that alone over basically 4 weeks would cut the death total by 98%. BTW roughly 3500-3700 Minnesotans die every 30 days just because.
