If the requirement is that our HC had to be a coordinator for the #2 team in the country last year or for Alabama this year we're going to have to up the ante quite a bit.

More realistic is that there's a fair amount of room between those positions and what we should expect for experience level for our new coach.

Current players liking him and avoiding an exodus (when players leave in the portal every year nowadays anyway) is an awful reasoning to determine next head coach.

Sacrificing one year of recruiting (which wouldn’t even need to happen since all committed anyways) is always okay as long as you hire the right guy, as you then get multiple good years in return. We ain’t going all in on 2025, but certainly want the team to be as competitive as possible right off bat.

I think the OC is getting way too much credit. This was an awful season. Take away Murray State and I’m not sure the offense was top 80 in the country. Teams knew they could sit back on defense. Montana State actually got caught in that. Of course they bounce back from that loss quite well and make a playoff run. Add in some unexpected monster TD runs and stat padding on 5 yard passes for the spunky QB and having Belquist during the season and the offense was not where it could have been. Maybe I’m the only one that watched Youngstown game. That last play was legendary. But hey, there is a cool video in the “war room” on signing day.

Sounds like the deal fell apart over dinner at Harry’s last night.  It’s Freuchte as the front runner now.

Shoot, was starting to really get excited over Caruso.

I'm ready to roll with Freuchte. Honestly, my biggest concern is although he's only been here a year, if he's not for a full blow up defensively. Staff included, because of the relationships he's built. If he is, make it official!

I don’t think it’s dead yet.

An internal hire for a program that has been average at best for several years is totally unwarranted and indefensible.

It would smack of bargain basement budgeting, which has plaqued this athletic department since we moved up to Division I.

It's time we step up and get serious about the FB program. Enough screwing around.

If they think Caruso is the guy. Get it done. Better not come down to not being able to pay.

If UNI can pay the Drake guy, UND can get this done.  That school’s no joke.  Tons of money.

He'd jolt the program immediately. He's once opined that it's a lot easier to go from 100 to Top 5, than Top 5 to National Champ. Right mentality.

Not sold on Fruechte plus UND looks dumb saying 8 years experience and then hire the guy with 7.  Look at this years offense

I wonder what the legal ramifications of that would be.  When I was hiring in business world we had to open up the posting again with different qualifications if wanted to hire someone that didn't meet the minimum quals.  Reasoning was that others might not have applied because they were in same situation and would have applied if at 7 years.  Didn't want to get sued

They’d be in Nashville playing football in January by Year 4.

They could roll with Fruechte and leave the interim tag on.  Not saying it would be a good look but I’ll bet it’s on the table.

How can that be on the table when the minimum criteria calls for 8 years experience and Fruechte has 7?

An internal hire would further illustrate the bush league management of this athletic department.

It’s going to be an amazing job for someone with the resources there.  Like national champion hunt by year three.  Football in Nashville in January by year 4 for a title and probably win it. A destination game down at UNLV or Hawaii.  Let’s think big here people

UND at Hawaii to open their brand new stadium, there’s a game I’d go to !

Good practice, yes. Legal requirement? No

Given some of the names who have actually rumored to interview the last day or two, if he somehow got it, it would be because he deserves it.

But the minimum requirements among a few other things have me skeptical.
