There will be no requirement for candidates to have present or prior UND coaching/playing experience.
There won’t be set minimum/maximum age limits but younger guys will need to have built an impressive resume in a shorter period. Although there won’t be a set maximum age we don’t want guys who don’t have the energy, don’t have the passion and can’t relate to players and their families.
No reason to limit our chances due to preconceived prejudices.

I like the idea of keeping Fruechte and Olson and maybe a couple from the offensive side.  The one item that really keeps me from getting on the Fruechte bandwagon is the QB development this year.. My assumption is that he had at least something to do with selection of the starter.. and after that he could have gotten the backups into the game in a more regular cadence.  QB is arguably the most important position on the field and you have to have a coach that develops that position.

Just hire the best candidate and let them decide on their staff. Ideally, the head coach would hire his own staff, and to be frank, all the current assistant coaches probably should be and will be go. Fruechte may be held onto based on his popularity and connection with the current players, but he may need to settle for a position coach spot and not be the coordinator, which I think is reasonable if the new head coach has a more preferred offensive coordinator candidate. You definitely do not want to force the new head coach into hiring Fruechte, especially at OC, if he doesn’t want to.

Despite getting a lot of heat on here, I still like Beau Baldwin, but I definitely like others as well. Hoffner and Bolte jump out (and ironically play each other this weekend).

Who cares about ties. Who cares about age. Just get the best coach that’s most likely to win the University of North Dakota a championship.

**None of us will care about UND ties or age if the new coach wins a championship.

No idea if we're doing this correct.  Been a lot of Fruechte OC talk on here, so it seems most are comfortable with that.  After all, there must be a reason why first-year Fruechte was chosen interim instead of more seasoned staff members.  I also think it's plausible that the new HC maintains at least one existing staff member for player and recruiting continuity, and Fruechte seems most likely.  Really what I was after is who people want leading the defensive side, which (ironically) has been biggest disappointment for many many years.

I would keep Big Time Shawny K.  Kostich has the most knowledge about area HS coaches, other area college coaches, recruits, UND Admin, Alumni,  and he's an awesome dude.

All signs are really pointing to Travis Johansen being the guy.

The hype train is picking up steam, seems to be if not everyone’s first choice at the very least someone everyone likes the idea of.

Are we ready to have @The Sicatoka contact Chaves and tell him Siouxsports.com has endorsed Travis Johansen for the next head coach? @UND-FB-FAN @Oxbow6

There’s a reason he’s been st coach since bubba came back 11 years

like the guys loyalty but a good coach shouldn’t be special teams coach for 11 years at one school

Nielson was around 57 when he took over at USD.

Is Chaves making the hire or is it going through a committee?

I looked back at a poll in 2014, at it was slightly in favor in DeBoer. We definitely know what we are talking about:D

A few years ago some player's parents that I talked to raved about Kostich.  They brought him up with no prior discussion about any of the coaches.  Just wanted to pass on how highly they thought of him.

Travis Johansen is a fine candidate but what about USD’s offensive coordinator Josh Davis?  https://goyotes.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/josh-davis/1540

Looks like USD really turned around two seasons ago after they hired Davis from SDSU. Johansen has been apart of a couple dud seasons at USD to be honest. Any reason we ain’t considering Davis here?

Johansen is originally from the Cities area. Maybe he still has connections there. UND definitely doesn't get enough quality athletes from there IMO.

No arguably about it.  I think Fruechte worked with what he had.  Would love to see what he would recruit at the position.

There may be better choices available though for coordinator spots. Let not anoint coordinators quite yet until we know head coach …

so odd....is he really gonna go to bat with his responsibilites for 48 hours knowing that he might get canned in the next 24 hours after that........your telling me bubba couldn't smooosh the recruits and whatnot for another week?

so weird

I think the admin likes him. I think they are looking for a defensive coach and they retain him.  Offense was really not our issue especially once he gets his own players in place he may have a chance here along with Olson…
