Won 5 or 6 Big Sky Championships and a National Championship at Eastern Washington. Prior to that led Central Washington to a 10-3 record and quarter finals of D2 playoffs. Turning Cal Poly around would be a tall task for many.
Certainly has necessary experience as HC at FCS and OC ( didn’t have success) at FBS level and pro experience in CFL. I don’t know if he would apply but I wouldn’t be surprised if Chaves would reach out.
He is another guy I believe would warrant consideration. (Might have recruiting contacts in Canada).

Cal Poly would be one of the most difficult schools to recruit for. The academic criteria is through the roof. You can just recruit any dude to cal poly like he could to EWU.

Bubba took over a program that was a train wreck.  Your numbers are accurate but don’t tell the entire story.

He certainly left it much better than he found it and that takes good coaching.  On field performance, fan engagement and facilities are way better for an incoming coach.  Look at other schools in college football that have been dumpster fires and new coaches cannot fix the problem.

Arizona State was a dumpster fire under Herm Edward’s. They are in the Big 12 Championship game after being picked to finish last in the preseason poll. Kenny Dillingham turned the program around in 2 years
Jedd Fisch took longer at U of Arizona , but he also elevated a team without history to new heights in 3 years.

It can be done.

They did it with good coaching which further backs my point.  Plenty of others that have hired a new coach and not improved at all.

Montana State’s DC is young and seems to be doing a great job there. He played there and is a Montana native, though. To me, a guy at that stage of their career who comes from a winning team is needed. Not someone who has been coaching for 35 years already.

Also, I want to mention that the last two coach hirings I was pounding the table for Kalen Deboer for football and Ben McCollum for basketball. I’d say those aged quite well. If Bill wants to know my thoughts right now, it’s pounding the freaking table for Danny. I’m open to listening to others but that’s my stance right now.

I don’t think Danny is going to be the guy, I’m still a believer but will move on.

Travis Johansen or Scott Wooster now top my list.

Beau Baldwin and Eric Schmidt have to both be considered, but I would give the edge to Baldwin given his success as FCS head coach. Schmidt has never been a head coach collegiately and his time as UND defensive coordinator was not that great - no playoff wins. His short time as DC at San Diego State has not been going well.

Another perhaps overly simplistic method that would have barriers, but could produce high quality candidates, would be to look at recent Division II champions:

Tony Annese - Ferris State https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Annese

Todd Hoffner is intriguing although no championship
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Hoffner

Toldeo DC based on his time at Mount Union

Travis Johansen is gaining steam on here and I think he’s a fine candidate

Lastly, there is Scott Wooster.

All in all, I can guarantee at least one of the above will apply and be interested. I would not look towards Danny Freund, Isaac Fruechte, Jake Landry, or even Luke Schleusner, I’m afraid, as they do not have head coaching experience, FBS experience, or signifiant success as a coordinator.

Badly need to get some outside experiences into the UND fb program.

I like the Toledo DC best out of this bunch. Winner, has been a head coach and now has FBS experience ar a pretty good program.

Woosters resume doesn’t excite me. I’m sure he’s a great coach, but his trajectory hasn’t brought him to D1 yet, and winning at GVSU probably would be done by many other guys.

Age matters: Tony Annese is like 63 years old.

Along those same lines, Johansen’s interest may depend on 65 year old Bob Nielson’s plans at USD, since presumably Johansen is the heir apparent there. But if Nielson wants to coach a few more years, who knows? Maybe Johansen doesn’t want to wait and is ready to move on.

No more Morningside and Mankato talk please.

Go big or go home.  We need a known name, from a known program that will put I-29 on notice.

Mojo.  Swagger.

Otherwise the Top 25, prob top 18, class act we had will be looking pretty good to you guys.

The Bison didn't even want Roehl.   Do we even have a QB that can run 40 times up the middle?

The Bison not wanting him is one thing but in my opinion, we shouldn’t be picking our next HC based off our current roster. That’s silly.

The entire locker room was advocating for him. The admin were the ones that told him to go get outside experience. He young, knows winning, and wants to advance. Doubt there’s even interest but he’s my pick
