Oxbow6 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Regardless of "he said, she said" the fact that no one wants to understand or comprehend, regardless of who's side you are on, is the Engelstad Foundation's stack of chips is way bigger than Kennedy's in this poker match. 1 Quote

You ask the landlord for some help. Maybe rent forgiveness, maybe reduced rent, maybe renegotiate the lease entirely. After all, you've been a good tenant. The landlord says no. How do you respond? Frustration? Anger? Fight back? Move out? Bite the bullet and stay? Sprinkle in some new facts: 1. The home cost > $100MM, was custom built for you, and becomes yours in 12 years. 2. The landlord is a non-profit corporation set up almost entirely for your benefit. 3. Your proposals are objectively reasonable, and do not cause the landlord any grievous economic harm. Does your response change? And you've been making additional payments to the landlord beyond the rent agreed upon in the lease for the past 18 years because the landlord doesn't know how to budget. 2 Quote
Popular Post UNDBIZ Posted May 10, 2018 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2018 This is what happens when a University goes without leadership for 15+ years. Little fiefdoms are created and the new guy is put in a tough spot trying to unify the campus. Kennedy will lose this fight, and in the long run, UND will lose. 7 Quote
streetsahead Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 It's funny how Kennedy spends most of the article refuting (or clarifying) her claims but then finds himself saying he "wouldn't suggest she's being dishonest." And this after McGarry is reminded that she's on the record after contradicting Kennedy's statements. Lots of he said she said but nobody wants to call the other party out for lying. Quote

REA was built to benefit and serve UND. UND does not exist to benefit and serve REA. I don't think the princess understands that. And since the princess went out of her way to point out that Ralph graduated from UND, but that no one else in the family did, I think it is more than fair to question her loyalty and commitment to this fine institution that we all care about. Kennedy is looking out for UND. Good for him. And the princess should think long and hard about why her dad built this arena. It wasn't to make UND all about him. #getoveryourself 1 7 Quote

So that means they run the university? That means they can continue taking more and more of the financial pie? If the princess wants Kennedy's job, she should get it for about a month and she'll learn how hard it is. We can't demand a strong UND President that "gets it" and then demand he genuflect to every rich donor that runs to the Heraldo whining and crying because he had the unmitigated gall to question that donor about something. #makeupyourmind 1 Quote

That attitude seems to be missing in Vegas right now. 1 Quote

UND1983 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 The one who goes public usually does so to get out in front of something (perhaps something deeper). I would guess that Ralph's kids have been raised to be tough and savvy yet she is running to the paper to cry about something she doesn't like at UND. Preemptive deflection, perhaps? 1 Quote

Popular Post AJS Posted May 10, 2018 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2018 Lots of good discussion, my only hope is that most of the general public will look into some of the details of this and not just base their opinion off headlines (which we know how the Herald is trying to frame it). If I was trying to summarize, would this be fair: The way the current contract is written, on a yearly basis, the revenue split favors the REA Foundation over UND. Kennedy wants to renegotiate better terms with REA Foundation, so that the split is more even. Kennedy is doing what he feels is best for UND, McGarry is doing what's best for the REA Foundation. At the end of the day, I like that Kennedy tried to renegotiate better terms, but should have dropped it once it appeared it was going nowhere. It's obvious the intentions McGarry had by going to the Herald for a sit down. I personally don't think she looks good at all, but will win in the court of public opinion. I would even say that McGarry looks much worse than Kennedy, but ultimately she knows that won't matter (& I'll be in the minority that thinks that). Here's where I'll be attacked. What's so disappointing to me, is I think Kennedy is a true leader that is (& will be great for UND). The problem is GF & UND seem to be even less willing to embrace change than most. They would rather have a complete zero in charge that doesn't change the status quo. I think the town and school still have a "D2" mentality. Anybody who tries to lead will be railroaded. Edit: The last paragraph has to do with the other events Kennedy has been called out for since he started, not so much to this discussion. 2 10 Quote
