There were several years of no Gophers at the Final Five and the tournament didn't miss a beat. I don't think so. The landscape of the conference realignment has changed so much that a venue change wouldn't do much for attendance. If they bring it to the Xcel, are we automatically going to get an extra 4-5000 fans? Very doubtful. A lot of these teams need time to develop a good rivalry between them before the NCHC takes off. I also believe that the NCHC wants to be known for their OWN tournament, not be known as a spin-off of the WCHA.

The UMD and SCSU fans must really hate Scheels arena too because neither fan base sold out their allotment each year.

Well to be fair to Duluth, all their fans were at Scheels...its just that the ticket allotment (400?) greatly exceeds the actual number of Bulldog fans.

A good chunk of them still showed up even though their team wasn't there. Or more importantly the Wisconsin fans. Far more atmosphere creating than Gopher fans. The cratering of their program hasn't helped the dismal showings at the Big Ten tourney.

However, if Target Center decides they don't want to have it during this lame-duck year, the tournament could move to the X for this next season, as the Wild are not at home that weekend. While not formally discussed, there is the off chance it moves to the Ralph for this coming season if TC pulls out and the X doesn't have open dates. Seems like there should be some way to have the NCHC at the X and the Summit League tournament at Target Center.

Not sure why they would be too upset. Did they really install a cooling system for the only use to be for the Frozen Faceoff? Most likely not. Well, now they can compete with the X to get Disney on ice in their building now!!

tnt
Guess the regional isn't until 2021, but still, they are looking ahead, why wouldn't the NCHC.

This league isnt the old WCHA, it's time to let the good old days of the Final Five die. Moving the league tournament to the Xcel will do more harm then good. I'd prefer this tournament move to a town that is actually aware that a hockey tournament is going on - St Paul.
