Popular Post Frozen4sioux
There is nothing I hate worse than the dive. I hate it. I despise those teams that actually use it as stategery. Last night SCSU obviously was predetermined to employ it throughout their game. I think it HAS to be a point of emphasis going forward and either 1 of 2 things need to happen. FIRST......CALL THE DIVE!!!! If that means the off ice official can call down and let the Ice Crew know that there wasn't a sniper in the rafters, or that the player thrashing around on the ice....covering his face to hide the laughing smirk, wasn't decapitated, then do it Call it 2 ways: #1 If the dive was just a straight fall to make it look like an illegal act happened. The officials should be able to negate the penalty call and just give the 2 mins for diving ....or better yet make the dive a double minor. #2 If the player was guilty of an infraction. Give the penalty. But the embellishment after make it a 5. Or at least a double as well.... ......like in the UND/SCSU playoff game last night. Boeser was guilty of being in the crease and contacting the goalie. 2 min. Interference absolutely. But when Lee Harvey hit the clown goalie with a .50 cal snipe from the catwalk, the call needs to be a double minor or even a 5 for embellishment. This would eliminate diving from the game. Period. 8
bigskyvikes
What happened to the SCSU player that acted like he was killed in a check right in front of the penalty box? Was that even a penalty? Have they always reviewed a questionable check, I like that idea. Did that player come back out? Not sure if I only see this through green glasses, but I can't remember a Sioux player acting like this....Ever! It does need to be policed! ringneck28
I was told that the review is in the playoffs only. I like it also.

TNF
I know it would never happen but I like the idea of the refs being able to review potential dives during the intermissions (1st or 2nd) and award a 10 minute misconduct as they see fit coming out of the break. This discourages the act of diving, it doesn't delay the game, and although it doesn't result in a pp it does have a negative impact on the player/team. All potential dives during the 3rd period can be reviewed live for an immediate misconduct. Then you institute the 3 strikes rule; on the 3rd diving misconduct in a given year you are suspended 1 game. Maybe not perfect but something along these lines could work. I'm pretty sure right after they reviewed the check and deemed it only a minor penalty, he came out for the next faceoff. So he laid on the ground just long enough to sell it. The Sioux boys were chirping him pretty hard before the faceoff.
Frozen4sioux
There have been a few Sioux through the years who taken the dive.....Rocco was apt to go down. Hennessy was just talking about that on his podcast....I guess the team was merciless on him when he did.
Wilbur
I'd be for off ice officials having a say in holding the player off the ice until they are checked by a medical professional at the end of the period. That'd cut down on Avery Peterson type plays from happening.

petey23
diving should be a 2 minute penalty and a 5 minute misconduct. A player laying on the ice long enough for medical staff to have to attend to him should be required to go the locker room and go through concussion protocol. Did everyone see the SCSU trainer wave off Poolman who was coming out to help.
Popular Post MafiaMan
I think the only real solution is to bust out a TASER and use it on anyone laying on the ice for more than 5 seconds. If the player immediately pops back up on his skates, it's a 2:00 minor. If he continues to lay on the ice and flop around in pain, it might be a 5:00 major.
UNDMOORHEAD
I myself have a game changing idea. Wait for it...... actually call the penalty, ta-da.

You could take a bullet and be out there next shift.....I wouldn't be surprised if UND changed locker rooms.

Saw the same thing in the Gopher/OSU series - MN player on the ice for five minutes after contact to the head...once the 5-spot is on the board, he's right back on the bench. No head exam necessary, I guess.

The Sicatoka
If you go down and writhe like you've been nearly terminally maimed, you should be sitting on the bench while the offender serves the duration of the penalty. Concussion protocols and all and such. Safety first.
Blackheart
So who are the biggest divers of the NCHC-WCHA-PIG10 in recent memory? I'll go with Robbie Earl and any Gofer forward.
