Longtime fan
The Deion talk got me thinking about the pro potentials on the roster. I came up with my top 5 players, in order, that I believe have the best chance to go to the next level based on size for NFL averages, speed, athletic ability, hip movement, footwork, intangibles..... 1). Grady 2a) Donnell 2b) cole 4) tank 5) Deion Honorable mentions mason torrey Demon A lot of work and dedication is needed yet, but the potential exists in each one of them. Grady's potential is off the charts

nodak651
Is Santiago too small to get a fair chance? Similar to Ratelle? Maybe he's just to young for people to be talking about his draft potential?

Maybe he's just to young for people to be talking about his draft potential? Probably both. Too young, and too small. Kid is obviously tough, and plays bigger than he is. But he will need some big number over the next 2 years to make up for his size, in terms of getting NFL looks. Obviously hope he gets a looks though. If he could add a little more weight, without losing the speed, who knows?

So maybe a year too soon for talk about Santiago but I think he'll get a fairer shake than Ratelle did. Running back, 3rd down back, return guy, slot guy.......you can name many many guys around Santiago's size in the league. If you can make people miss, you can make people miss. Santiago is slippery and strong at the FCS level, if he's slippery and strong at the NFL level, he plays.

nodak651
Found some notes on Santiago from a scout at the Washington game. ......"His best value is as a return specialist, writes Serritella, "but his skill-set suggests he could also play slot receiver at the next level with his open field elusiveness and catching ability." He also writes that Santiago is a long shot to be drafted, but he could be a name to consider as an UDFA. We can't help but think of Phillip Lindsay. Top jitter bug guys, and I put John in this category are better with punt returns, slot, or 3rd down back. Did everyone see John's play in the slot, 4 guys flat out missed and were laying on the ground and the 5th guy he jumped over then John lost his balance. Some of those Huskies are still looking for their jock straps. #7 their safety is should be an NFL guy and he missed bad twice.

I have said with our depth at RB, that they should use Santiago in the slot more. Doing so would put some film out there of how good he can be there. He has a much better chance as a slot receiver/returner than a RB in the NFL. 1

Brady Oliveiria (when healthy) and Johannesson can handle the inside the tackles stuff while John Santiago is in the slot and, thus, on the field at the same time.

I agree that’s a great way to use him. But yet, against the #9 team in the nation, had had over 100 yards primarily lining up in the backfield. He’s so good it doesn’t matter where we put him.
HAWKS1
GF Herald had a picture of Deion Harris today with a small note that he was injured in practice yesterday and out for the season, right next to the Montana-UND writeup. Did any one else see that? Or was it from a picture of last year?

When Santiago plays solely in the backfield, it takes the other top players off the field (Oliviera, Johannesson). UND’s offense would be harder to defend and, quite frankly, better if the offense regularly had #22 along with either #5 or #33 on the field at the same time. The depth chart situation at running back that UND has now doesn’t come around often. I sure hate to see UND and Rudolph waste this opportunity.

McKinney on a jet sweep motion to the right. Santiago on a wheel to the left. Cloyd with a late release seam. Wanzek on the right ready to block or run an option route. Or one of about 15 other options in this hypothetical set.

I vote geaux_sioux to be the OC starting now! This is exactly what should be happening. Why arnt we seeing this??? The only thing that Rudy does to get the opposing defense's off their game is before the snap (formation shifts). Then its the same 15 plays he does all game. UM big star linebacker is gonna have a field day with UND's offense.
UND-FB-FAN
http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4537046-ex-und-standouts-now-turn-their-attention-pro-game I’m very happy to see UND finally working on their own pro day. This needs to happen for UND football to grow its own reputation as a serious DI football program, and not just a formality for a DI athletics department. QUOTE: UND hasn't held a pro day in recent history. Last year, Reyes attended a pro day at Northwestern. Others have gone to pro days at Minnesota and North Dakota State. Agnew wants that to change. He wants one in Grand Forks in March. "That's a goal," Agnew said. "We're trying to get that done. We have the indoor (practice facility) and we have the prospects."
